that was fast. Trevor Cheek scores 1:55 into the game, and the teddy bears fly

Jonathan Huberdeau still has him beat. He scored 40 seconds into Teddy Bear toss game, although they still lost to Patrick Roy's Remparts.

Speaking of Huberdeau, the Sea Dogs lost their last 3-4 games with Huberdeau but so far are 2-0 during his suspension/away with Team Canada. That's more to do with the teams they've played than his value to the team.

Julian have you seen Isles 4th round pick Loic Leduc play? If so is he a solid defenseman on a bad team in Cape Breton or does he have no shot at the NHL?

I never noticed him before until a game about a week ago. Other than his size, he didn't really stand out to me in a good or a bad way. Very few visiting players do though unless they are World Junior caliber. He was by far the biggest player on the ice that game and probably 1 of the bigger ones in the Q this year.

Thanks.

He was rated 209 by central scouting going into the draft. His stats aren't very good, but there aren't many bright spots on his team. They're in rebuild mode. After the draft my first thought was maybe he can develop into something close to Hal Gil. We shall see I guess. Obviously he needs to work on his skating.

Spokane comes back from a 6-2 third period deficit and beats Seattle 7-6 in a shootout last night. 23-8-1 on the year for the Chiefs. Spokane holds their teddy bear toss tonight against Tri-City.

Hey, the Tigers beat Kamloops 7-6 in OT tonight. That's a big win over a team ranked in the top 10 of the CHL.

Liam Liston walked away from the Giants.
lost his starting to job to a 16 year old, after posting a 4.53 GAA in 12 games (sv% of .836)
not surprisingly, his record was 1-10.

they have had three games this weekend, with a total of 34 goals sored
L 5-3, L 9-5, W 8-4

their top goalie is away for a national U-18 tourney, so it's the back-up carrying the load.

So the Chiefs are 2-4 in their last 6 games, lucky not to be worse given one of those wins was the 3rd period comeback mentioned above. Not coincidentally those 6 games are all without Don Nachbaur who is on Canada's bench for the world juniors. Can't wait to have you back Don!

Tigers win 5-2 in Prince Albert tonight - With the win, they move into the 8th and final playoff spot in the East (it's going to be a dogfight for them to get in this year).

Oil Kings loading up for a playoff run while the Giants look towards next season:

The Vancouver Giants trade F Trevor Cheek (20) to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Oil Kings’ General Manager Bob Green announced today the team has acquired veteran forward Trevor Cheek from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Cheek is a 6'2" 198-pound forward who was acquired by the Giants early this season from the Calgary Hitmen. The Vancouver, Washington native is 20 years old and fills the last available over-age spot on the Oil Kings roster. Those other two 20-year-old spots are taken by forwards T.J. Foster and Dylan Wruck.

"Trevor Cheek is a tough, versatile, veteran player who can take on multiple roles in our top 9 forward group." said Green "He should have instant chemistry in our room having played with David Musil in Vancouver and Henrik Samuelsson in midget."

Cheek was leading the Giants with 18 goals and was second in team scoring with 33 points. The gritty two-way forward has totalled 164 games, 51 goals, 56 assists and 147 penalty minutes over his three WHL seasons with Calgary and Vancouver.

The second round pick included in the deal was originally acquired from Portland last season in exchange for the rights to Cam Reid

the very few clutch goals that the Giants had scored this season, Cheek got most of them.
firmly in the basement, and staying there.

I know this is a cyclical league, but I am pretty shocked that the Giants sucked so badly when they had to know they would have such a good chance at so many extra eyes with the NHl lockout.

seems I've heard this story before:
After 20min, it's 3-0 Tri-City. SHOTS: VAN: 5 TRI: 6

Tri-City ended up scoring 9 on 28 shots.
9-5 final. for most teams, scoring 5 is enough for a win.

And Grigorenko makes the Sabres. It could just be for a handfull of games but if he stays that will really screw over Patrick Roy and his Remparts. He already had 2 Europeans (which is the CHL limit for those who don't know) but drafted Kucherov, who was another 1 of Russia's best players at the WJC, in case Grigorenko went to the NHL. The 3rd European is a Danish kid that is also quite good but he was injured at the start of the year. So Roy had the 2 Russians as his 2 Europeans. He had to make a choice when the Danish guy came back from his injury. Since there didn't appear to be any end in sight to the lockout he traded Kucherov. He started with 3 solid Euros (although only 2 could play at a time) and now he could be down to 1.

Huberdeau being pretty much a lock to stay with the Panthers was a bit of a blow to my Sea Dogs. After 3 strong years this is year 1 of the rebuild and trading Huberdeau would have really helped that process.

The dynamics in the Q are going to be a lot different with those 2 gone.

pretty good OHL game on SNET right now
Belleville Bulls (Brendan Gaunce, Malcolm Subban) vs Niagara IceDogs (Ryan Strome, Brett Ritchie)

3-2 Belleville midway through 2nd.
Belleville just killed a full 2 minute 5 on 3, entire time in their zone.
