This isn't about who would win in a hypothetical game (which any opinion cannot be proved) it's about if the title is vacated then it should be filled. I can't think of any other scenario where the runner up isn't awarded the title.

Actually you can not claim both. Either USC's wins count or they do not. If they count USC in the NC. If they do not count, than OU is undefeated. You can only claim one, not both

I just read that. Perhaps the dumbest thing I ever have seen. USC officially played nobody that year. Bush's stats do not count, but teams keep losses. Basically a ghost scored 4 TDs on a team on 0 yards in a loss, against a team that didn't exist. If you win that counts and USC would get a loss. That makes sense the ledger balances out. If you lose, you count the loss, but there is no winner. NCAA is just awesome.

USC's official record for that season, according to the NCAA, is 0-1. According to the NCAA, USC played one game that season and lost. Yet, according to the NCAA, 12 teams lost to a team that officially played 1 game all season and lost that game.

So Oklahoma isn't deserving of the hypothetical "also ran" trophy because they actually played against USC and lost? You think Auburn should be rewarded with the trophy because they didn't get a chance to get their asses slaughtered in the title game? What it means is if USC lost, let say the first game of the year but managed to make it to the NCG against OU and beat them 55 to 19, just like 2005. USC had all games vacated but the game against TEXAS shows as a lost..

Nobody should get credit for USC vacated games, including Auburn
