Wasn't going for clever.

You succeeded.

Here's another one: Rangers looking like the front runners in the Garza sweepstakes with either/or Mike Olt and Leury Garcia going in the deal. Any day now...

I thought Garcia and olt might be dealt at the deadline. Got a link for that news?

Really hoping the Mets can land a power bat for the outfield. Eric Young Jr has been an unbelievably solid pickup and major improvement on D over what we had. Eric Young in left, Power Bat in right, sign Ellsbury in the offseason and the Mets have not only a great outfield but a very intimidating lineup.

Thinking the Garza deal won't happen. Don't think JD will give up top prospects for a 1/2 season rental. I think we will "go" with what we have.

Hard to say. Personally I'm hesitant to deal Olt for a rental, but ill trust whatever JD does. Now if they work a deal that includes Schierholtz that's another matter entirely.

Latest report is that the Cubbies have asked interested teams for their final offers, with the Rangers still being the favorites. Stay tuned...

Another update...according to Yahoo Sports, Rangers talking to the Astros about Bud Norris.

Meh. Norris is a lateral move. Doesn't move the needle even a little bit for me.

It appears he's a backup plan in case the Garza deal doesn't happen. I wonder what they would be offering for him?

Would be funny if Theo's plan for Garza unwound.

He's better be plan D.

Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger writes that the Mets "will need to be overwhelmed with an offer" in order to trade Marlon Byrd.

Okay, I have a lot of respect for Sandy Alderson...he knows how to put a good team together. I'm trusting that this is all part of the "driving up the price" game. Putting Marlon on the Bereaved List for a week or so might not be all that bad of an idea...

Hearing that Red Sox are scouting Jake Peavy tonight. He needs to do well. Never liked the guy for the Padres. 100% asshole.

Does Peavy really have anything left in the tank though? I know Boston might need another starter especially if Buchholz doesnt come back soon, but that doesnt seem like the greatest idea...

I think Peavy still has something left, but not at the expense of prospects and then paying his $14mm salary for next season, and the remainder of his salary this season. He should be a PTBNL in the Jacobs for Thornton trade. Jacobs has some upside.

I also never liked when Peavy turned down a trade to a contender a year or so before he eventually agreed to go to the Whie Sox. I think the guy lacks heart, and the balls to compete in the A.L East.

I think the Sox biggest issue right now is finding more bullpen help. With Buchholz' injury, we could use an extra starter, but I wouldn't overpay. I think the Sox can fill in as needed with Allen Webster, Brandon Workman, and Anthony Ranaudo.

Many teams feel the need to bolster the lineup with big names or experiencd players at the deadline, but giving youth a shot can work just as well sometimes.
