I think Peavy still has something left, but not at the expense of prospects and then paying his $14mm salary for next season, and the remainder of his salary this season. He should be a PTBNL in the Jacobs for Thornton trade. Jacobs has some upside.

I also never liked when Peavy turned down a trade to a contender a year or so before he eventually agreed to go to the Whie Sox. I think the guy lacks heart, and the balls to compete in the A.L East.

I think the Sox biggest issue right now is finding more bullpen help. With Buchholz' injury, we could use an extra starter, but I wouldn't overpay. I think the Sox can fill in as needed with Allen Webster, Brandon Workman, and Anthony Ranaudo.

Many teams feel the need to bolster the lineup with big names or experiencd players at the deadline, but giving youth a shot can work just as well sometimes.

I agree with you about Peavy and I'm a Padres fan. Let me fill you in on a little secret about this guy: Fans hate how cocky he is. He's not a team player and he'd be a monumental disappointment to your team if you lose prospects and take on his contract. He's not worth it. Period.

Is it just me or has this been one of the most uneventful trade deadlines in recent memory? The Phillies need to sell and spice things up.

The problem is there doesn't seem like there's much available on the market. Byrnes might trade Gregorson & that's about it. If they were to put Headley & Street on the market it would help spice things up a bit from a Padres fans perspective.

I'm not buying it. They just want more leverage.

Not happening. Braves don't want to give up that much to get him. White Sox want high level prospects as well as not have to pay anything rest of deal. White Sox are asking more for him than Cubs were asking for to get Garza

They're going to build around a 32 year old pitcher who's always hurt? Nah...I think he ends up with the Red Sox.

I dunno... the White Sox are run by idiots.

Tigers just banged one across-- they got Astros closer Veras 2.93 ERA, 45K in 44IP and 19 for 23 in save opps. They got him for a single A bag of chips and a kick in the pants to the Astros. He's probably that extra BP piece of solid quality that the Tigers needed to fix the leaky right side of their late inning pen. Leyland says that Benoit will remain the primary closer, but that Veras will spot close to spell Benoit when Benoit needs a rest, and that he'll also work alongside Smyly as the RH 8th inning option, and beside Rondon for the 7th. It's said that Dombrowski may not be finished, as it's rumored that he's also seeking another LH option. Nice move though!! ;>/)

True, but they just did the deal anyway. Inglesias definitely, don't know who else yet. I guess this was a 3 team deal.

Surprised they dealt Iglesias. Sounds to me like the Sox might view Bogaerts as the long term answer at SS.

Red Sox got a steal I think.

White Sox are just flat dumb.

Tigers are more to be determined but don't see big impact either way.

White Sox get Avisail Garcia and three low-level prospects

Red Sox get Peavy

Tigers get Inglesias, mainly for insurance in case of Peralta's suspension, of which is being said that he might not appeal.

Yeah, Red Sox win this one, I think.

Tigers just traded Garcia for what was once the Red Sox top prospect.. and a above average 23 yr old middle infielder... I have to say.. The Red Sox only win this trade if Peavy actually plays a full season next year or they win the WS this year.. Otherwise.. The White Sox or Tigers win this hands down... Garcia is a stud outfielder... He was hitting .380 in aaa.. and has proven he can play in the bigs. Tigers basically tradeds from a position of strength to fill a weakness... Dombrowski is the best GM in the mlb.

Iglesias is never going to develop power though and his average is slowly coming down. His BAAPIP is really high right now. Sox have Boegarts, Middlebrook, Cicchini(sp?) etcc.. Options. Great move.

Garcia if he ever develops power could be good but I think he will just be a solid player. Thats why based on some of the talks now hearing that the Sox got him and then 3 low level unnamed prospects tells me the Red Sox made a great move to get Peavy.

Tigers are just kind of the middle man. They need some short stop help badly right now. Don't have room for Garcia at the moment. We don't know how either Iglesias or Garcia will work out in the long run. So they just went for best fit right now.

“Iglesias is the best defensive shortstop prospect I’ve ever seen,” Law wrote in his Top 100 Prospects of 2011 piece last week.
“He’s not the fastest or most athletic, but he’s the one most able to make plays and to take difficult plays and make them look routine.”
The 21-year-old shortstop, who was ranked No. 91 overall last year, is checking in at No. 45 overall this year and is the Red Sox’ top prospect.

This was from 2011.. but He is still thought of as the best defensive ss prospect in baseball.. if he hits .270.. he is just fine with me.. Basically traded equal value of Garcia for Iglesias.. but Tigers needed ss.. and not of... and for all those that thought Garcia should be traded for a reliever.. I laugh.. you don't trade top 100 prospects for a middle reliever.. they are not worth that much. EVER.

Ya all that is probably true. Like I said, the Tigers definitely made the best move for them right now. Down the line Garcia and Iglesias are still comparable players in impact so the Tigers helped themselves to win that ring this year.

I was just stating that for the Red Sox I think they did great. Law whom you quoted also loved the deal. Iglesias has an awesome glove but like you said for the Tigers, the Red Sox traded from a position of need.

I just don't see how the White Sox did well unless those low level guys shock and one pans out.
