Vin Scully is hands down the best baseball announcer EVER!! The stories he tells are priceless. Even though I grew up in San Diego (remember Jerry Coleman??? "Oh doctor!" or, "He slides into second base with a standup double.") and have followed the Pads since their first season, Vin Scully is the man and the voice of baseball.

Way back when, the Dodgers had Red Barber as an announcer and he was really outstanding but he went to the hated Yankees. the Dodgers then hired some kid named Vin Scully. He was and still is the best I've ever listened to in all my 80 years. When he retires, no one will ever be able to replace him. The Yankees had Mel Allen but Vin is the best.

Does anyone hate Vin Scully as much as I do?

ITT: A minority opinion about the Gold Standard of broadcasting. Vin Scully is roundly agreed upon to be one of, if not the best sports casters ever. For any sport.

Oh wait, it's a Giants fan. Let's all be surprised that it's a Giants fan that is the one hating on Vin Scully.

Have fun listening to Miller butchering Spanish last names "Jonathan San-CHEZ" /nails-on-a-chalkboard

So you don't feel that Steve Lyons will be a worthy replacement?

The fall off from Scully is horrifying. Hopefully the team's move to their own sports network next year will mean the end of Steve Lyons and Eric Collins. They are the worst.

I have been listening to Scully since 1965, and there is no one who can compare to him. He has slowed down a little but he is still the best in the business. As a kid I would listen to the games in bed at night with my transistor radio and ear phone and I can still remember him calling the 9th inning of Koufax's perfect game. He is the best.

Nope, love the guy. And don't come on here posting links to your sports blog, dude. You gotta be kidding. :lame: Just leave now if you're here to use us to promote your little blog.
Thank you Hammer Down. Scully is the man when it comes to the booth. He will be telling us a story about a young player that averaged 320 in hig...oh there goes a hit to right field it's deep and off the wall Ramirez is rounding second and he is in there for a triple...and this kid worked many hours in the cage to reach 320...yeah Scully... he's the best.

Big Vin Scully fan...

I've been listening to Vin Scully since I was a kid and my Grandfather had the game on the Radio every time we visited. I can't say how far back that goes but it had to be the early 60's, that an Farmers John commercials... :-)

I fell asleep every night with a 9 volt radio under my pillow in 1958 listing to the best in the world at telling stories about baseball. He seems a part of my family and my soul.

To say Vin Scully is terrible now is absolute blasphemy and an insult to Dodger fans! I grew up watching Dodger baseball with my grandfather and listening to Vin call games and there is nothing like it! Honestly Vin Scully made me into a Dodger fan and just listening to his stories and experiences is almost better than the game itself. You can hate the Dodgers or the Lakers, BUT dont hate Vin Scully and Chick Hearn!

The one thing I don't mind about the Dodgers. Vin Scully is a living legend.

It's just so crazy to me. I love history, and so I love to go back and watch old Dodger games when I can (mostly to get ready for upcoming seasons). And I just can't go back far enough to find a game that still has both picture and sound, that Scully isn't announcing. I just watched game 7 of the 1965 WS in Minneapolis. And there's Vin.

I have no idea how to separate Dodger baseball from Vin Scully.
