vin scully? i could call him an icon, or a national treasure, and not be too far from the truth. but, the greatest compliment i can pay mr. scully is that i listen to him when my home team, with their silly p-b-p & color men, broadcasts at the same time. actually, i'll watch a dodger game just to listen to him talk about the history of the opposing team. he covers it all from the 40's to the 20-teens.

Well said :10:. I feel lucky to have gotten to listen to Vin and glad everytime he decides to keep his microphone on for another year!

I respect the guy, but just can't stand his voice. I like his storytelling and all that, but when you don't care for the tone and style of his delivery, then I have no use for him.

I'm watching the game in Atlanta tonight and am reminded of just how terrible Steve Lyons is. Particularly what drives me nuts about this guy is how he goes on and on about "I remember when I played..." All he ever did was ride the pine but in his mind he's a legend. He's terrible!

Steve Lyons is the least of the Dodgers' problems.

When it comes to broadcasters there is Vin Scully and then there is everyone else.

Yep, classic Scully. In this day and age when heroes are few and far between and the world seems more off kilter than ever, it's nice to have a figure like Vin who is universally revered.

Listening to a baseball game is like listening to music. When I watch a ballgame I want the message to sound like a beautiful, rolling, cohesive piece of music. I love the history of the game, the pitching matchups in the game and the chess game between managers during a game. But one thing I don't get watching a game on tv is the sites, sounds and smells of a ballgame. The ONLY announcer I have ever heard that gave me everything I wanted in a tv game is Vinny. Nothing better than sitting down listening to that guy call a Dodger game with a few cold beers in tow.

Just read this entire thread and the 2 new smucks that posted negative things about Scully should have their soiled dipers removed and shoved down their collective throats as a reminder that sometimes it is just better to listen to the music rather than discuss it.

I don't get how Vin is too old, sure he makes some very minor mistakes but he is still every bit as great as he's ever been.Young and old alike adore Vin.

How can it be that a guy who was sitting in the press box at the Polo Grounds when Bobby Thomson hit his famous home run to sink the Dodgers in '51 is still not only the Dodgers announcer but arguably still the best in the game? Can someone tell me how that's even possible?

1) Learning hands on from the very best there was before him

2) Being allowed to always be himself. Kind of easy to be at your best when you are just being yourself.

3) Experience or "practice, practice, practice......"

And......good genes, clean living, humility and the passion to do the best possible. When Vin Scully is gone, the Dodgers will never be the same again.

So you don't feel that Steve Lyons will be a worthy replacement?
