Not if he had his way but sometimes players do what they want despite Boras representing
Are you talking about players like Soto whose eventual AAV is expected to be very close to the top of the league?

worth mentioning that there isn't really a benchmark for this type of trade. Soto is a once in a lifetime talent.
I would think that would make Boras even less likely to extend a guy to facilitate a trade.

Not specifically. Just answering the question
My answer obviously is a longshot so in reality it makes little to zero sense to trade for Soto

Possibly, but if I team presented an offer he felt was competitive, I can see him taking it.

I would think Boras would want as many bidders as possible before allowing him to sign him long term, and not just those who had the prospects to work a trade.

I just cannot see Soto being traded to a team that can also extend him, making both the Nationals happy and Boras happy.

I think those kind of trade/extend deals are more for guys not costing as much either in trade or in dollars. Even at that, there are very, very few of them being done.

I'm fascinated by the scenario no matter what.

The second half began with the Rangers and Miami being the only teams with three pitchers each ranked in the top 100, according to Fangraphs. When the two draft picks officially sign, the Rangers could have a whole rotation’s equivalent in the top 100.

“Adding Brock Porter and Kumar Rocker via the draft gives the Rangers more potential high-end starting prospects than any organization,” said MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis. “There’s always risk and attrition involved with pitchers, but I’m not sure the last time any team had five guys like that.”

Of course, prospects are often just wishes in human form. There is risk. Leiter, the best pitcher in college baseball last year, has struggled with inconsistency after a big jump directly to Double-A. Rocker had shoulder surgery last year. High school pitchers, such as Porter, are bigger risks for Tommy John surgery delays. Just see White, whose career was slowed by the surgery after being drafted in the second round in 2018, and Cole Ragans, the 2016 first-rounder who has undergone the procedure twice. They are getting another prospect back from Tommy John surgery Friday when right-hander Dane Acker makes his first appearance for the Arizona Complex League team.

Q: JD, it’s probably, an unfair question, because I know there probably wasn’t a total consensus in the room, but did some guys get up at the end or did you look at them and say ‘hey, listen here guys. This is the direction we’re going and I’m telling you why we’re going there?’ Were there some passionate speeches about it? Or was it just everybody just got on board with it and said ‘yeah, this is our guy, let’s go.’”

Daniels: “A little bit of both. You have to remember Kumar, we didn’t have that clarity until these last few weeks, right? He didn’t pitch in the early spring and so he really wasn’t solidly on the board up until that point just because we didn’t have the recent information. So we were, for a good part of the spring, operating as though he wasn’t going to be a consideration there. So we got locked in on a group of really talented players and. One of the real themes of our conversations was ‘hey, lets’ not get anchored in there. Let’s not get locked in. We have time and we’re going to make the most of this and really get all the information and all these guys.’ And there were a number of players there, we had seven players there that we were, you know, really in consideration. We narrowed it down and it ended up being three or four toward the end. Kumar kind of pushed his way back into that and we leaned on our history. So, the last few days, we had some kind of smaller group discussions with the leadership and the front office and the scouting group. We had a couple larger discussions in the room, kind of knew where everybody stood. Ultimately, Kip (Fagg), our scouting director, Chris Young, myself, we had to kind of make a decision. I think everybody felt heard in the process that we knew where everybody stood and the reason they stood where they were. And once we decided, ‘hey, we’re going with Rocker,’ everybody was way on board and the room erupted and people were really excited about it.”

Sound like the draft is a still a small committee led process. Fagg, Young, and JD are all involved.

If we have all our free agents to DC then he could just walk and sign back with them

Once again. Do not sign him without an extension however slim that may be

Yeah, there have been plenty to sign an extension. But, doing so to facilitate a trade is another story.
