Sborz coming in the game reminded me to look and see what Englert has done lately. He has pitched once since the game wjere he was knocked around. Two days ago he pitched 2.2 innings and gave up one run while striking out 5.

Just saw the final after seeing no score for 6 innings. Wow. Burke not as sharp as last year so far but still solid.

His stats are solid but has given up 4 homers in 10 innings. He’s got to keep the ball in the yard.

Heaney put pressure on Valdez by putting up zeros. That was huge. Then the dam broke. Hernandez did an awesome job of bailing out Burke and Will Smith has been a great addition so far.

Something to think about. We have DeGrom as our ACE. After that we have 4 very solid pitchers and it is debatable who is 2-5. But for now Heaney is our #5 starter. That is amazing. When other teams look at our starting pitching it has to cause concern for them. It doesn't mean that they will shut everyone down all the time but they are very capable of doing just that. I am not sure if we have ever had a starting rotation quite like this. It is nice to have. Our biggest concern is going to be their health. But we have what I think are capable backups in Ragan and Dunning.

All he has to do this year is keep from being terrible every time out. Then the Tigers can send him back to the minors in 2024 and let him finish up his development.

The Tigers are going nowhere this year so they can afford to have him give up too many HR this year.

If Englert had stayed with us he most likely would not have been considered as a rotation piece until 2025. That is still a big possibility for him, but with the Tigers instead of with us.
