Rangers: After being swept by the Mariners at home to end the first half, the Rangers sit at 41-49, well out of the American League Wild Card picture. Texas’ front office hasn’t been shy about saying the “true window of contention” doesn’t open until 2023, but there were raised expectations for the club this season following the blockbuster signings of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. Though the bar is low, ‘22 has clearly been a step in the right direction for the club after a 102-loss season in ‘21 put additional focus on the rebuild. If the window is truly declared to be 2023 by FO will mgr let the players develop in 2022?
Are they in the same page?
Do we believe what the FO said about the window?

Personally speaking, I don't have any interest in interpreting what a sports media article says about interpreting what the FO may have said at one point. Or the whole "Woody is the worst manager ever" conversation.

Smith and Taveras are playing today and are in the lineup on a regular basis. I expect that to be the case the rest of the way this season, and in my book that counts as the manager "letting the players develop."

I have never read a direct quote where the FO said when our window opens.

I am not even sure various people even agree on the definition of "window", much less on when their definition of "window" will open.

To me it is when we have a serious shot at playing in the ALCS and doing well in that series. I definitely do not see that happening next year. Also, I think window needs to be at least a three or four year period. In other words, if you trade for three or four rentals and you go to a WS that year, but are not in contention the next year, that is not a window.

In my completely amateur evaluation, when a team is setting things up to have sustainable success, with a window open for at least 3/4 years, there is no defined "start". You've got to have some pieces in place, have some pieces develop, and then you add pieces as you go along. Everything comes together to become a contender.

To me it seems like the Rangers are following that plan.
