I actually think a good amount of the scouts have been long term guys. Fletcher, Hextall, even back to Holmgren. Seems teams don’t turnover scouts as much which always seemed weird to me.

Only one I can think of that moved on was Chris Pryor who was promoted to assistant GM with Hextall and then follow d him to Pittsburgh.

Just looks to me like the zeroed in on taking a C in the first round. Apparently tried pretty hard to move up to 4/5, presumably to take Lindstrom. But the price was like 12, 32, and a 1st next year to do it. Rightfully decided not to do that, then Catton was gone and there really wasn’t another good C left. So they reached for Luchanko. Just seems like a faulty draft strategy to me and that would come from Briere/Jones.
They probably could have traded back from 13 to the late teens and still picked Luchanko and received an extra pick.

Something to add in the mix is that Buium is represented by the same group as Cutter Gauthier.
Hmmmmm

I hope our Russian savior doesn’t go the same route.

Michkov is represented by CAA, who also represent Cam York, Seeler, and Fedotov.

KO Sports, representing Buium and Cauthier also have Ryan Johansen as a client.

This is definitely true in my opinion also. It just kind of seemed like they already had a plan and didn't do much to enhance it, at least not for anything this year.

Under the radar but when we traded Hayes to the Blues, we ate 1/2 salary and got a 6th round pick. The Blues just sent him and a 2nd round pick to the Pens for future considerations. Ouch!

He'll do well there, another aging vet fading off into the sunset. They needed to replace Carter, sad if that's the best they could get.

The Philadelphia Flyers have extended qualifying offers to the following two players, according to General Manager Daniel Briere. As a result, the club will retain their negotiating rights:

F - Bobby Brink
D - Egor Zamula

The Flyers did not Qualify the following three players:

G - Carter Hart
D - Mason Millman
D - Will Zmolek

Apparently, none of the NHLers in that criminal case were qualified. He will probably miss at least 2 years waiting for the trial. Even if he is not guilty, he will have a hard time playing again after so much time away from the game.

It's disappointing that the NHL doesn't believe in innocent until proven guilty.
They should have frozen their status until the case is resolved, even if they know what the outcome is.

These kids should be violently mad at this point. Canadian government ruining their careers. What is the equal and opposite reaction to that?... hmmm... It's to kill people? Government people? Are there not any Russians to hire for the job??

I have no idea why this didn't happen. It looked like Brierre had a blank look on his face after the Minnesota deal happened. Like oh crap i just traded away a top 4 defenseman and then he didn't know what to do after that.

I still cant understand why it takes so long to bring these kids to trial.

I get in Canada there is no right to a speedy trial.

This was a waste of another year:

2024 Draft Grade: C+

Jett Luchanko projects as an NHL center. No. 13 was a tad high for me, even though I knew plenty of scouts who had him around that range. He’s a third-line center for my money, but I could see him become a 2C if a lot goes right. Jack Berglund, Philly’s next pick, has a lot of NHL traits and could be a bottom-six forward, too. I couldn’t get there with the Spencer Gill hype this season, even though I knew some scouts who liked him a lot. If I’m off on Luchanko and Gill, this class could be better than I’ve graded it.

This is exactly right.

Wokeness is alive and well in the NHL and they would not do anything to piss off the loud minority.
