Even with Briere and Jones, we just don't make crisp, succinct, and excellent moves like the Avs just did. The Flyers just seem asleep during the draft.
You'd think they'd get more than just a future 1st for trading this years 1st.

Flyers get 2025 Edmonton 1st that is top-12 protected.Seems like a lot of sources, and the flyers twitter, saying it’s a 2025 first. So maybe just some kind of lottery or top 10 protection.
Flyers likely looking at 3 firsts and 3 seconds for next year. In a draft they seem to like a lot. So, barring using those for trades, that’s essentially your rebuild right there.
See you all in September 2025 !Yeah, we have suddenly STACKED our 2025 draft via a couple trades and Columbus keeping their 2nd this year. It's very likely that we'll have 8 picks in the first three rounds, 6 of those in the first two rounds.
Also, upon considering that the '25 draft is deeper than the '24 draft, even if Edmonton wins the Cup next season (which we all know they won't), the 1st round pick they traded to us will have arguably a lot more value than the 32nd overall pick that we gave them. No chance in hell that the Avs or Oilers will be picking top 10 or 12 next season either, so those are our 1st round picks.
Trading the 12th pick for the 13th and acquiring a 3rd in the process look great on paper, but not when you pass on a potential star offensive defenseman in the process. Right now, that is a tough pill for all of us to swallow.
Whether we actually make all of those picks next summer or not, that sure as hell is a lot of ammunition to wheel and deal in the '25 draft.
I agree Maverick. Clearly the Flyers FO didn't have much respect for this year's draft and were aiming for 2025 but to side step Buium was more evidence that the Flyers "miss things" or go to sleep when they should not. The Flyers may have found a diamond-in-the-rough or maybe he will turn-out to be trade fodder. That remains to be seen. But to deliberately side step a guy like Buium for a Third Rounder is stupidity that is a ghost from the recent past! How much is this the scouting group trying to “outsmart” the rest of the hockey experts ? That would be a throwback to both Hextall and WTFC. Don’t remember if the scouting group was changed out when WTFC was terminated. It is working out that way lasgop and you may indeed be right because they sure as hell shit-the-bed on passing on Buium for a damn Third Rounder.
