Why did he have this as the most important game? Wouldn't beating Oregon or Stanford have been bigger wins? At this point though it's pretty much a must win for both teams to live up to their preseason expectations. Both teams have been battle tested and both coaches will have their teams well prepared. ASU isn't going to see a better o-line than Stanford or a better d-line than Notre Dame the rest of the season. Likewise Washington won't see a better offense than Oregon or a better defense than Stanford.
Hate to tell you, but Oregon's defense > Stanford's and it isn't even close this year. I don't know why those who don't face them every year fail to understand how good their defense is, but Oregon isn't just an offense heavy program. UW scored less at home vs Oregon than on the road vs Stanford. Don't get me wrong, both have their areas you can attack. Not sure why Price failed to see the receivers that were open the other day, but they did have a lot of penetration on passing plays and did a good job of taking the screens away.

As for why this game? Sure Stanford and Oregon were high priorities, but for whatever reason he breaks the season into halves (always has) and starting off the second half of the season with a win seems to always be big. I'm sure he probably knew he wasn't going to win both of those other games as well and didn't want to slip into a losing pattern. Who knows, maybe he just doesn't like Graham? :noidea:
And I could be saying the same thing about our offense as you are about yours. Stack the box and Strong will kill you. DJ Foster is too fast to be covered with a LB but he's also just as deadly lining up in the backfield and taking handoffs. The same things can be said about Marion Grice and Deantre Lewis. Coyle and Nelson are two of the fastest TEs in the country and both will also line up in the slot or at H-back. Disrespect Taylor Kelly's running ability like USC and he'll torch your defense. Like I said, it's going to be a good old fashioned shoot out :suds:
UW won't stack the box. That's not how they defend the run. They didn't stuff the box against Arizona and did a fantastic job of keeping Carey to minimal damage. I may not like our secondary, but they have been very effective in every game this year outside of Oregon and I don't care how good you think your QB and receivers are, they aren't going to be anywhere near as fast and effective as Oregon's. I really don't fear your running game and doubt the team will either.

Ted Miller's PAC12 Power rankings:

1. Oregon: The Ducks not only got their signature victory over a quality ranked foe, they actually did so by playing a relevant fourth quarter. That the 10th consecutive win over Washington ended up being a 10th consecutive blowout only solidifies their standing here.

2. UCLA: The Bruins, after impressively whipping California, are the conference's only other unbeaten, top-10 team after Stanford was upset at Utah. The Bruins can make a major statement if they go on the road and hand the Cardinal a second loss this season.

3. Stanford: While the power rankings in large part react to the week that was, they also strongly consider the totality of the season. While that was a tough loss at Utah, keep in mind the Cardinal have three quality Pac-12 wins: Arizona State, Washington State and Washington.

4. Washington: The Huskies have lost consecutive games to top-five foes in the Cardinal and Ducks. There's no shame in that. But now they need to pick up a quality road win. And so we have the visit to Arizona State on Saturday, a critical game for both.

5. Oregon State: The Beavers have won five in a row since they opened with an upset loss to Eastern Washington. While you never say never, they should improve to 6-1 at California on Saturday, and that might be enough to get them back into the national polls. Thereafter, though, the schedule ramps up considerably.

6. Utah: Funny thing with Utah's first two years in the Pac-12: We thought the Utes got lucky not playing Stanford and Oregon in their division. The win over the Cardinal might be a turning point for Utah in the conference. Or the Utes might lose at Arizona on Saturday and come back to earth.

7. Arizona State: The Sun Devils are a much better team at home, and the Huskies have struggled on the road under coach Steve Sarkisian. So Saturday sets up for Arizona State to make its own statement in the Pac-12 pecking order. A victory also probably returns the Sun Devils to the national rankings.

8. Washington State: Things fell apart at home against Oregon State quickly, as a highly competitive game became a blowout loss in the fourth quarter. Things don't get any easier this weekend, as a visit to Oregon typically isn't much fun. Or is it a great upset opportunity?

9. USC: If Ed Orgeron wants to show everyone what his leadership means at USC, he could lead the Trojans to a win at Notre Dame. Beat the Fighting Irish, and there will be more than a few folks who, at least tentatively, ask, "What about Ed?"

10. Arizona: The Wildcats face three consecutive winnable games starting with a visit from Utah. They become bowl eligible with three more wins and could work their way back into the South Division picture. The Utah game feels like a major measuring stick -- for both teams.

11. Colorado: Reality has set in for the Buffaloes. The question now is whether a QB change is at hand.

12. California: California showed some fight against UCLA. But this obviously is an outmanned team going through schematic growing pains on both sides of the ball.

Bowl Projections:

VIZIO BCS National Championship Game (Jan. 6, 2014): Oregon vs. BCS
Rose Bowl Game Presented by VIZIO (Jan. 1, 2014): Stanford vs. Big Ten
Valero Alamo Bowl (Dec. 30): UCLA vs. Big 12
National University Holiday Bowl (Dec. 30): Washington vs. Big 12
Hyundai Sun Bowl (Dec. 31): Arizona State vs. ACC
Las Vegas Bowl (Dec. 21): Oregon State vs. MWC
Fight Hunger Bowl (Dec. 27): USC vs. BYU
Gildan New Mexico Bowl (Dec. 21): Utah vs. MWC
New Era Pinstripe Bowl (Dec. 28): Arizona vs. American
Heart of Dallas Bowl (Jan. 1, 2014): Washington State vs. Conference USA

Wish Wisconsin fans would read this when they tabbed them as a top 3 or 4 team in the PAC I tried to set them straight that they are a mid PAC team -- they just wouldn't believe.

Wash State is caught up in a "mudslide" right now, GLuckie to them.:bawling:

Yep the "meat-n-tators" schedule is forth coming for the Beavers, but how beautiful was their sched setup for them this year? It's been like a 1st half preseason with a never ending buildup to the end. I said before the season started, "the stars were lined up for the Beavers" and a speedbump got into the way in EWU. Oh well...Losing the 1st game of the season tastes sweeter than losing the last game of the season. I love what's coming around the turnpike and can't wait to hand ol' Stand-a-turd-up another loss come Oct26th. After THAT comes USC, @ASU, Washington and @Oregoon. Gawd does it get any better?:suds:

THAT Bowl predict is sure to stirred up a bit more before the end. And FUCK the Vegas Bowl for me Beavs, we have a "higher" Bowl bid in mind than that turd!:laugh3:

Care to make a wager on YOUR predict? You don't post much, so I have to guess you talk a good story when you reply.

I could "pay off" down in Eugene in late Nov as I WILL BE in that stadium I refer to as a "toilet bowl" for this years edition of the Civil.

Otherwise just STFU LoneSmuck...:suds:
