ASU has recruited much better in the past. Even in the not so distant past, top 25ish, top 30ish classes were common if not the norm. It's just a function of success. The only teams that have a natural advantage recruiting in the conference are the LA schools due to proximity to the primary recruiting base. Otherwise, all ASU has to do is start winning more games, and they'll do just fine. I anticipate they'll wind up with a top 25 type class this season if they win 10 games.

No offense meant, but every school will believe they have a better chance than they really do. I don't see how any school can think they will leapfrog Oregon, Stanford, or UCLA in recruiting right now from kids who would have otherwise looked at USC. In fact, it is far more likely those kids end up going to Bama or other national powers than staying in the Pac with a depleted USC program.

I mean really, a kid with a power to attract USC shrugs and goes to ASU? :wtf:

It'll take years of sustained success to eclipse the power schools in recruiting but we definitely have laid the foundation with our early recruiting to have a top 25 class this year if we keep winning.

Well I mean DJ Calhoun just said we were in his #1 in his top 3 after a decommit from USC. Were not an awful program. We actually should be a lot better we are in between Californa and Texas, and we are also the biggest University, and we have good enough history. I don't understand why we aren't a power house in College Football. But still Uofa probably has the worse football history in the Pac 10 only team to never go to a rosebowl in the Pac 10 era. I mean pretty good so far http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/9/class/2014.

What you wrote doesn't really respond to what I wrote so I'm a little confused. What part of increased success leading to better recruiting do you disagree with? Oregon and Stanford are recruiting at a pretty high level right now because they've been winning a lot lately. When they aren't winning, the recruiting has been just as mediocre as the rest of the conference. They are not special- They just happen to be winning.

And even in the CPC era, ASU would beat USC a few times every cycle. Tempe is not a bad place to be.

If we were in the Pac during coach kush full time, we would probably have a couple of national championships. Its funny we dragged Uofa to the Pac 10 if you think about it.......

Which didn't speak to the topic at hand which is who benefits from a depleted USC now. And even if we are talking some future event it presumes you build something as special as they have and EVERY base has that same hope. How many deliver on it? UW has those same hopes. Oregon State did after last year. UCLA does with Mora. People in Cal probably believe the bear raid might be the key to their increased standing. It goes on and on. It goes without saying if you can be the next Oregon you end up with the same spoils, but getting there doesn't come easy and is far more rare than the ambitions that gives their fans false hope.
College Football Recruiting Schools - ESPN Ucla was a one year wonder. They have gone back to reality now, This is the modern day Ucla quiet fans.
UCLA is on the list of those who can benefit from a down USC right now because of Mora and the offense he runs, but its more where the school is. Cali has a draw all it's own. There are a segment of kids who want to be in that state and would take UCLA over ASU, UW, or even Oregon to be there.

Teams not named Oregon, Stanford, or UCLA only get access to high 4star and 5star kids if they have other hooks. Maybe the kid is from that region, lived there once, had relatives who went there, know one of the coaches, etc. Can you get some? Sure, but can you take the kids who USC would have been locks on? Not without those hooks. I see them going to Bama, ND, LSU, Oregon, Florida, Stanford, etc. They are national kids looking at more than the Pac to start with.

Well first off there is only about 7 commits left those yes, but a couple will be looking at Pac schools. Many people like to stay close to home so im guessing UCLA will be high on there list all im saying is this will be the best class ASU has had probably since Suggs committed. committing to schools like Bama especially coming from a west coast school can be risky.

Most of the big national commits don't make their choices until after the end of the season and for good reason. You just can't grade or pay any attention to class standings at this time of year because of it. We all enjoy looking at the process and getting excited over kids, but no class will be complete for many more months. Any who are full now are not really going to be top ranked classes IMO.

We also believe in Graham hes our modern day kush no such thing as false hope!

every base says the exact same thing except for the hapless cougs and buffs. Zona believes in rich rod, cal doesn't get excited over much, but their 10 fans are probably high on dykes. UCLA? Loves them some Mora. UW? we all bark for sark. Utah fans say the same thing year after year.

I get that you love your team and have all of the hopes in the world they end up champions, but the odds are very very much stacked against you. Keep up the dream, but understand no one outside of your school will believe it.

Looking at what the new stadium has done for you guys maybe it will push us up to even better recruiting. I don't know how were able to go almost all the way in 96 but there must be some luck involved.

Actually, Ute fans do not.

I cover the Utes. In the preseason there was a lot of griping about the pass rush and pass D. Many thought this to be the worst Utah D in decades. Nobody was excited about Travis Wilson and they had a huge hole at RB to fill. Most Ute fans gave their team a chance going to a shitty bowl this year. Not even winning it.
