Well indirectly I suppose. It's not a question of does Oregon have the talent. They could score 70+ on any lower team. Just seems to me asking for 53 point wins in game 1 is a lot. I took SD on that one because of it. If the first two games were reversed and next week was SD I might view it differently. You just figure in game 1 against a terrible team you might see a LOT more 2nd and 3rd string kids to get evaluations in as scoring 70+ might not be as big of a priority as seeing what your most unknown players can do against live play in a packed stadium.

they only missed it by 3 points.
and over the last few years they are always right in the general area of points against FCS opponents.

13 Nicholls 66-3 63 points
12 Tenn Tech 63-14 49 points
11 Missouri State 56-7 49 points
10 Portland State 69-0 69 points

so 52.5 wasnt exactly impossible.

TBT I was really torn with all the traps on the UCLA game with such a long travel vs a damn good defense and all the hype we got preseason. (Not used to that shit)

Still, like you, I thought the Dubbs would have a cake wake on the Island....

Kind of hard when you have a entire new coaching staff implementing a new offense and the QB is someone who hasn't had a start in 3 years since H.S. And on the road.

Our D did the job, and Hawaii threw a 240 RB at us all game long.

Offense is a work in progress. To be expected right now. But if Miles gets the start next week at home, I'm expecting a better performance from our offense. He absolutely blew up the Beavs last year when he had to start because Keith Price was sitting out a game due to a sore knee.

Oregon didnt have issues with the travel last year. and Virginia's defense finished 65th in the nation and the were 0-8 in ACC play last season.

My biggest take away from the weekend was that the fight for Pac 12 North 3rd place is going to be interesting with Oregon and Stanford still looking like the top 2 but all 4 of the other teams looking like it could be a fight. Cal looked the best of the 4 WSU looked solid. sorry but UW and OSU didnt look too impressive. but they got the wins.

Well you didn't, so doesn't that kind of settle the question?

I didnt question Oregon covering? they nearly did but how does that settle the question.

Fuck Oregon, were not Oregon!

We're climbing the ranks right now with a schedule that put our team in the opener on the road, coast to coast with an early kick off vs an FBS opponent and then on the road again in Week 3 with Texas....

When Oregon wants to stop playing those patsy FCS schools early on, (FYI UCLA has NEVER played an FCS school) you go and tell me again about freaking Oregon's travel....

And while your at it, tell me just how good or bad the Cavs have looked in their openers at home in the past few years. :gaah:

The Cav's defense looked pretty damn good to me this year.

Maybe it's an indication we suck on offense or just had the first game jitters.

Maybe it's just an indication their defense is as advertised THIS year....

Let's see what they do by years end before we start 'evaluating' UVA.

This is CFB my friend, look no further than Auburn 09' (3-5 SEC) to 10'.

Things change in a hurry in and UVA could be on the rise, who the hell knows....:noidea:

the argument of FCS schools is kind of moot when you have had the very bottom of Non power 5s on your schedule too. rice, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Memphis is really not much better than FCS schools.
Maybe we should wait to the end of the year to evaluate them but Im not the one that said they were damn good.

Wouldn't it be nice to root for a team that doesn't schedule FCS schools? lol

Sorry, hate to burst your bubble, but FUCLA is doing nothing but going backwards with that performance Saturday. And your QB lost all hope for any further mention of a Heisman.

Championship teams don't have first game jitters. If FUCLA doesn't have a COMPLETE overhaul of that OL, you can count on a 500% season

Thats BS argument. You play a Rice and Memphis a San Jose State you can end up with a team that might have a few players here and there. Not saying they should beat you but even teams like Fresno state can have a Carr at QB with an NFL wide receiver. You fumble a kickoff and get a pass intercepted you can be in a pickle . But you schedule South West Northern Alabama State and its nothing more than a glorified practice and your coaches don't have to game plan for them just tune up for the next game and chalk up a victory.

I suspect the Huskies who were 25th, will get bounced out of the polls this week, even though we are 1-0. Winning by 1 @Hawaii won't keep us there. And we probably do deserve it considering the performance. Just hope we can recrack the top 25 by the start of PAC play. If we aren't ranked, going to be tough to justify CGD coming for the Stanford game. :(
