I don’t see how facing a lineup with 6 guys hitting .225 or less and not going through the lineup twice is going to boost your confidence but since he threw 3 shutout innings it was probably the right thing to do.

Well, there is definitely a pecking order.

I think we definitely have many who would not be able to sniff a roster spot on a really good team. I hope we are trying to build a really good team.

There would not be a reason to jettison all 19 of the guys I have mentioned, but I think we certainly have enough that can be jettisoned that we would not need to risk a good prospect being taken in Rule 5.

I see about 8-10 on the 40man that could be gone and thus done in baseball. I understand the 19 thought but based on depth and positional needs there really are only about half that where we could get rid of them. Gonna be a long offseason as well, not going to be buyers and waiting to fill the roster with guys who can't land anywhere else and are looking to tryout for otters clubs on our roster.

Edit: Just went through the 40 man and I revise my statement. I see 4 that I would waive for a spot if a young guy is ready, see if I could get a bucket of balls for, then let em walk. Two won't be popular, but Trevino and Willie can go. yeah I know willie is hurt, but he's always hurt. When he isn't hurt he's sulking or talking about being a victim. Lyles I don't see being here long term and he eats innings but would rather give those innings to a youngster. last would be Holt. Another guy who isn't a long term player here so I'd move on from him if we needed a spot.

We have guys I am not sure can be decent back ups much less good.
It would be nice to move some of these fringe guys to clubs looking for back ups
