This Karlsson deal has all the makings of a rare skin condition by year 5.
Yeah but, if the Sharks can finally manage to win a cup then that ought to be one hell of a ointment
If they can manage to win a cup

In two years SJ will have three defencemen making a combined $26 mil AAV, be aged 36, 34 and 31 and have 4, 5 and 6 years left on their deals.

Combined with their highest paid forward being 32 by then and their second highest paid forward pushing 30 and being Evander Kane, plus the possibility of Pavelski staying, the Sharks seem to be doing the Kings' "get as old as possible" strategy.
You don't go out and win the cup icing a team of kids
That will only win you the free agent / trade board over at Hockey Futures

He was fantastic after the trade. If he can keep that level of play up for a season he'll be asking for north of $5M next year.

I would have tried to get him on a 2-3 year if I was the Sens.

I can understand the hesitation given the issues in the past, but I agree. I was hoping the Sens wouldn't even qualify him and we could bring him back on a 2 year deal. Really rooting for the kid.

All I will say is that there has been plenty of people predicting the Sharks downfall for several years now and they manage to remain highly competitive year-after-year. Doug Wilson has done a fantastic job as GM of the Sharks. Guys like Hertl, Meier, and Lebanc look to be the next wave of good forwards to step in to fill the absence of other players either moving on or retiring. Logan Couture still looks to have plenty left in the tank at 29.

Right, you do it by overpaying veterans until they're all 40.
A Leafs fan is chiming in on how to build a cup winning roster.
That's like taking election advise from Hillary Clinton

Clearly DW likes to field veteran teams

Do I even bother with the pot/kettle thing re: Cup-winning rosters from a fan of maybe the only club more notorious for being unable to win a Cup than the Leafs?
