yep. its the risk everyone of those players are willing to take, it sucks huge for the NHL and the Isles, Isles were out of the playoffs anyway but this kills it 100%. maybe they can collect a great draft pick.

Anyone know how the cap floor works?

With Tavares done for the season, that's $5.5M off the cap (right?) and if they move Vanek that's another $5.75M. Their cap payroll is just shy of $52M right now, and if you take off $11M they're under the cap floor on an annualized basis.

Does it not matter though since they would likely have paid out over $44M in actual salary?

The Taveras injury sucks not only for the Isles but for the NHL. A top star gone for the year due to playing in an event outside the NHL. But what sucks more is the arguement that pro's should not play in the olympics (which I am against they shouldn't play) but there is no way to force all countries to do that.

Now this will just add fuel to the fire for Bettman come the 2018 games to not allow NHL'ers playing.

bettman WANTS them in the games, he knows its nothing but positive for the league no matter who gets hurt. he just uses it as bargaining for getting something else he wants as he knows the players want it more

There are certain players that, if they got hurt, would change his mind. But there are very few of those. If he lost his Ovechkin Vs Crosby storyline for the playoff run, he'd go mental.

Yeah, though. He wants them in the games. Even if it makes very little sense for the league.

if the IOC shares some sort of revenue with the nhl they will stay ... thats the only way ... theres no cultural pull to go to Korea in 2018

I think they should cut bait with the Olympics and do the World Cup - the Olympics has good Hockey but it takes away from the NHL season and sometimes it's difficult to get back into the swing of things once the NHL season resumes - and plus, if you had the Olympics in the summer for the NHL, some players wouldn't participate because they're banged up - at least with the World Cup, if you have it in early September, guys would be recovered mostly and they would be able to play

Bettman is all for revenues I doubt he likes the olympics due to that fact.

If he could control a world cup he would but just imagine the nightmare of pulling all those leagues into it to form this cup.

Yep - keep it simple and just go with the model that they used the last two times they played the World Cup Of Hockey - it'll be great for revenue and the brand of hockey might be even better because it will be on NHL ice and not the bigger ice

It could have been worse. At least it's not his ACL. Hopefully he heals quickly & will be ready for next season. We'll just have to wait & see. Each individual heals at a different pace.

I keep hearing about the league wanting the World Cup Of Hockey to come back and grow. I just dont see how the NHL could be involved in that and the Olympics. Both would mean less IMO.
