The really good news is that we have only three more games until the Christmas break and when we come back to play on the 28th, we should be a largely healthy team. Couturier, Read, Streit and Neuvirth may all be back at that stage.

Read may need another week, but all of the others are skating right now.

Looking like Weise is scratched for Gordon tonight. I approve of this.

Well, we choked away a point tonight. Not sure what else to say. There was just not enough killer instinct in the offensive zone or speed and puck pursuit all over the ice.

Then our OT and shootout was mostly a disaster against a team that has been awful at them for awhile now.

Honestly i thought they played pretty well last night. Even in the third they played some offense. A lot more than they have been in the last few games anyway. Rinne just wouldn't surrender an insurance marker. He was stout last night. Sometimes a goalie steals one.

The shootout was a mess though. All three attempts were terrible. I don't understand why guys go in so slowly. The goalie can just sit there. Go in with speed make a simple move and the goalie has to react, then you have something to shoot at.

Well, now we need to beat Washington to stay competitive at the top of the Metro. This is the biggest game of the season to date, in my opinion. Florida and Tampa both won last night, so now the pressure is on us to respond so teams like that cannot gain the steam to catch us. One thing is for sure, both of those teams probably had playoff hopes entering the season and right now it looks really tough for them unless we help them out.

Hell of a game last night.....
Good to see the boys could hold their own against the Crapitals!!!

Mason still holding strong, and I will say has changed my mind from keeping Nuevy and letting him go!!!!
I hope they choose the right one to keep!!!

Both shoot out goals from Voracek and Simmer were fuckin incredible!!!!

Pretty obvious at this point that if they are going to keep one it has to be Mase. Neuvy just can't stay on the ice. Same story his whole career.

I agree....now.
Last year everything was so up and down with the both of them, But Mase has pulled it together.
Mase was getting beat more times than not in shootouts...he has really put it all together this year.

Provorov at 19 is a 1st pairing dman. He was strong against OV last night and had greatly reduced his rookie mistakes in 35 career games. He was a -8 a few weeks ago and now is at 0. He had 1 bad game and was a -5. His hockey sense at 19 is impressive. Is he the next Bobby Orr? No but who is. I am pretty happy about having a legitimate #1.

I was really disappointed last night through two periods, despite the rally late in the middle frame. However, I thought we played a lot better in the third period as a team.

Huge win for Steve Mason though. Not only did he absolutely save our bacon in regulation, he somehow got the better of Holtby in the shootout. Both goalies ended up with two goals against and a .947 save percentage, but I thought Mase had a more difficult workload because we lost too many races and puck battles, plus turned it over too often.

We need to be better against the top tier teams or we're going to get spanked a few times here and learn the lesson the hard way.

It's a big two points, but I think Mason largely stole them for us, so I'll give him serious props for that.

Unfortunately, the Caps are still within two points of us and have a whopping four games in hand.

Upon the return of Couturier and Read, we may have to staple Weise to the bench and demote Leier. Nothing against Leier, but he will be the odd man out and Weise is obviously useless. Schenn probably needs to go back to wing asap at that point also. I'm not sure Cousins should ever center anything right now either. He can't win a faceoff to save his life.

What we're missing right now is a legitimate offensive second line center. The hope is that Couturier will get there and maybe he will with Simmonds/Konecny flanking him. Either way, there will be a lot of options and depth once everyone is healthy here. That and our defense will at least get a boost. I'm really looking forward to it.

On a lesser note from the game above, I was thrilled to finally see Cousins not get a shootout attempt. What exactly has the guy done to prove he is worthy of one every single time out!?! At least Ghost pretty much had Holtby beat before he narrowly lost the handle. Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds meanwhile have all shown they can get it done. Last night and in the past.

Alright, gametime again. Let's get two more points before the Christmas break and make it a very happy holiday season. The Devils have lost seven in a row and can't score or keep the puck out of their net as of late, so I expect to win in regulation.

Actually, NJ have lost I believe 14 of their last 17 games, so it is a colossal meltdown really.

Apparently the struggling Devils had this game pegged as one last rallying cry before the new year. Not sure what the fuck we are doing out there, but this one is far from over. The fighting should only help us get on track moving forward, but so far this is embarrassing.

I have to add about the fights that have taken place. Finally Weise has at least shown us that he does indeed own a pair of balls after dropping the gloves and throwing a few punches at a bigger man. That and Mike Cammalleri is a gutless pussy for hitting Cousins in the back of the head after he was down on the ice.

That game was a shit show from the word go.

The Deviled-eggs got in the guys heads and took up space there all night. We had some good fights, but some shit playing.

I felt like I was watching the WWE and a hockey game broke out!!!!

ya that was the definition of a clunker. coming off the high beating the caps, last game before a nice break, against a team that's pitiful. they just didn't feel like it last night.
