I cant understand Schenn he looked great all preseason. Does missing three games really hurt a player that bad?
I think that it's timing and getting back into game mode. He'll be fine but for now let him earn it back to the top line. Read's been hot so ride him...

Just want to throw this out there

Manning vs all NHL DMen
2nd- hits
8th- points
9th- assists
He's been a pleasant surprise same as Read. Remember we were hoping way back that he'd be good then he was injured. Some guys are late bloomers too Flyers may end up having one of the best D's if he continues this.

I would rather play the 5-4 and 6-5 games than that crap low scoring hockey we have seen in the past.

Perhaps so, but I also want to win some games 4-1, 5-1 and 6-1. You get the idea. If every game is extremely competitive, yes it means we can hang with anyone, but it also means we never put anyone away for good. So, we can never sort of relax and catch our breathe.

He's a +6 also through only 7 games, which is really impressive. Of all of our other defenders, only Schultz has even a positive plus/minus, somehow.

I get the feeling that he's going to play big minutes for as long as he likes if he can keep this up or even stay close to it. I have to give him major props for truly coming to play. Probably none of us expected him to even make the top six when we're healthy, let alone the top four. Right now, he's probably a 4/5 playing like a 2/3.

My buddy and I were sitting at the blue line to the left of the Sabres goalie at the end where the Flyers shot twice. For the first 2 periods it looked like 18 individuals out there. The only consistent line has been the 2nd. Read was on the top line. I have never seen us lose so many face-offs. Couts must have some type of either shoulder or wrist injury. He shied away from hitting and was looking to pass and not shoot. The place went nuts when Konectny scored. He and Jake were flying around all night. I am almost positive that this was the 1st game I have ever been to with the Flyers coming back and winning from a 3 goal deficit after 2. We decided the trainers shot have gotten the 1st star for removing the teams heads from there asses during the 2nd intermission.

Konecny was definitely due for that goal. Nice to see him not have to wait too long to get it. Now the pressure is off and he can go do his thing. Some of the passes he makes are really quite incredible. Eyes in the back of his head and the skill to get it there through traffic too. He's going to shred this league at some point and it's exciting to think about.

While Couturier had a bad faceoff night, Giroux had a great one and Gordon was solid in a lesser role too.

Overall, we're just way better off offensively with Konecny in the top six and Voracek already at the top of his game. The opposing teams have to play their shutdown center against Giroux and then our second line goes to work.

Now if we could just find a way to shut teams down with our defense and goaltending, much like we did against Washington in the last few playoff games. I have a feeling that it should only improve as the season moves along. Guys like Gudas and MDZ are returning and getting into the full swing of things, plus Provorov is getting better with each passing game.

We have a big opportunity for revenge tonight against Arizona. Amazingly, they have lost every game since they beat us in OT in their first. I knew that wasn't a strong team, just a young and fast one.

Time to start stringing wins together and pay them back for that loss.

I am definitely with you on this i want to win every game 4-1 or 5-1 but if thats not possible a high scoring win is more entertaining than a very low scoring win.

Well, the offense is clearly capable of doing great things on any given night, but we need to keep the puck out of our net a bit more. We're 10th in goals and 5th on the power play suddenly, but we're not yet winning a lot of games. It's because of a lack of defense and to a much lesser degree, goaltending.

I know you guys love him but a big part of our defense being bad is a 19 year old Ivan Proverov. I think he could've used 1 more year of seasoning. At times he seems over matched out there and its only because hes so young. As i have heard many times on this board it take defensmam longer to develop than forwards. In 3 years he will be a top player in the league for a long time. Plus i think Hakstol plays him too much for sucha young kid still learning the game.

shocking..19 year old defenseman doesn't look like an all-star 7 games in to the season

let's revisit this at the midway point

I didn't say he should look like an all star but he shouldn't look over matched and he does so he should be getting seasoning in the juniors.

Juniors does him no good at this point. He was defenseman of the year and led all d-men in scoring. Another year of pounding on lesser competition would do nothing to develop him. He will take his lumps in the NHL this year and be better for it. He has had his highs and lows early this season. In a few months there will be far more highs than lows. Patience...

I have to agree with this the only other option would be the AHL but he's probably too good for that at this stage. I think Hakstol wants to push him hence the minutes to see where he's at. When the other guys are all back the ice time will settle down... he will be pretty damn good.

He looks like he gets better as the game goes on. He also is averaging over 20 minutes per game.

Competition normally breeds success so we should all be pleased by his play....

He isn't eligible for AHL since he is only 19. His options were juniors or big club, that's it. Hextall stresses repeatedly not rushing anyone up. If he felt this was the best option for Provorov then that's it. He has done nothing in his tenure as GM to question his decisions to this point.

I also think his biggest adjustment is the speed of the game. He has the skill but needs to adjust.

Provorov had a few rough games, but he's been very good in the past couple IMO. The Flyers are still without their #1 dman in MDZ. They're essentially deploying Provorov as their #1 because he's the most complete dman they have. Problem is, he's also the most inexperienced and is still learning the NHL. When MDZ comes back, it will take some of the pressure off Provorov and also push AMac/Streit to the press box with Schultz.

MDZ-Gudas
Provorov-Manning
Ghost-AMac/Streit

Isn't half bad. Especially if Manning can keep his play up. It might not shut down the big lines on other teams, but the Flyers will be able to transition on anyone, I can guarantee you that.
