Ah, I still think it's an absolute fleecing...Lol We made essentially the same trade, but only moved up to the 2nd round from the 3rd round. They acquired a brand new 2nd rounder and solved what was a major issue for them with the Datsyuk contract. Idk if Vitale is completely useless. He is cheap and could probably provide depth or play on the 4th line.

I see what you're saying, but they sure as hell gave the Wings a lot of breaks in the trade.

Oh ya no doubt, an absolutely fantastic deal for Detroit. The cap teams are pretty lucky to have the Yotes to dump their cap hits on. Certainly makes things a little easier at the top.

I have yet to mention this, but who knows, maybe Matt Read will morph back into his 20+ goal self next season. You certainly expect him to either score more than 11 or be traded. Either one of those probably makes us better.

So we are basically going into this season with the same team as last season and should expect similar results. Hoping to the last minute to make the playoffs play a bigger or faster team and get bounced in 5 if we get lucky.
Hopefully we add Provorov and Konecny.

I think we grew and became a much better team in the second half of the season and the records show that too.

First 3 months: 15-14-7

Last 3 months (and April): 26-13-7

Massive difference there. I think we're more of the second half team than we are the first half.

Btw, if you extrapolate 26-13-7 across a full season, we would've been at least tied with Pittsburgh for the second best record in the conference. Fine line here, folks.

Two big reasons for this massive turnaround:
Ghost coming up and playing like a top pair defenseman
Hakstol finally realizing that Umberger is washed up and removing him from the lineup.

Both of which will be realized from the start of the season this year. Likely with the addition of Provorov, who, in my opinion, will challenge for the Calder this season.

Expect Ghost to take a step back this year, as teams will be more prepared for what he brings. Hopefully he can continue to adapt and improve going forward.

Ghost got a little tired towards the end of the season and I believe he was also playing hurt if im not mistaken. If he plays a little step back from his first couple of months I think we will still be very happy but if he plays a step back from his last month we will all be very disappointed.

I think when at 100% Ghost has the speed, skill and ability to make people look bad, even if they just focus in on stopping him and G.

Ghost is that offensive skating defenseman we haven't had in a long time.

Well at least Matt Martin isn't going to the Rags. He's asking 4 years 12 million.

That's all pretty encouraging to read. We all hope he gets out from under that contract, but if that doesn't happen, it's not a huge deal. I mean, he would be playing and developing against grown men in the second best league in the world, no? Our organization just wouldn't have a lot of access or input, I imagine.
This is encouraging for the most part. The only part I didn't like was when then mentioned the doping scandal and said he may not have been able to say no to the consumption of steroids. If he cant say no do we want him doping for two year not under our watch until his contract runs out.
