Current Vibe Disappointed: I'm going to preface this post by stating this is not a political post but some could easily tie politics into it. Seems to me the world is less and less friendly. I just had a run with a panhandler that got me to thinking about this. People use to stop and talk or say hello or have a nice day. We used to talk with the cashier who is replaced by the machine. Kids or young adults seem to lack social skills and any etiquette. And people get so mad so easily, road rage, impatience etc. Just seems as humans we care less and less about being cordial and friendly.
The experience gained while getting older makes you notice it more.

Without getting on a soap box, this is a cultural issue IMHO. I don't see this in Asia. The majority of children and adolescents I run into still have the utmost respect for their elders and they also live on their phones and tablets.

So this is an America issue? If Asian children are on their phones as much as US Children and they don't have these same issues? Also do they have the same babies having babies issues?

It's very simple. It's all about "ME". Fuck you, fuck everybody but me. Don't even think about fucking me, I'm unfuckable.

My kids started it by playing Nintendo all of their free time. Their kids are on the phone every waking hour. I paid for my kids to go to college and I paid for one grandson because he ended up living with me from the time he was 12 until he was 20. He paid more attention to what I tried to reach him than my kids did. His mother has disappeared with her 12 year old son from a guy who was always looking to make a score and blamed her when he failed.

They can't deal with real life and expect everyone to approve of what they do.

Sorry Reb, it ain't gonna get any better. Just enjoy that Participation Trophy.
I don't buy the " back in my day" rant. There's clearly an entitlement issue out there and I blame the marketing world changing values to create selling opportunities. I won't get long winded and get into how. But will say this: if you feel entitled you just do the thing you are going to do with out thought, especially spending.

I'll change the tone bad to a positive one. My daughter got accepted into her choice college, with scholarship money to boot.
Great congrats what school?

I believe it's a western issue. Europe has many of the same problems.

It Depends on the Asian country. Many kids use their phoned and tablets for academic purposes. I don't see the woke movement in Asia. This isn't to say Asia is Nirvana. They have issues as well. But, most countries I visit the kids are very well behaved and appear to mature sooner. They grow up quickly, mostly out of necessity. They do have children having children and there are loads of single moms. Especially in SEA. In these same countries families still raise their children. To a lesser degree the village raise them as everyone is an Auntie. The Asian woman love to coddle children.

Massachusetts Maritime
My brother's best friend graduated from Maine Maritime. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After several years working at MAERSK, he became the second engineer and eventually became the first engineer. He spent most of twenty-five years at sea and traveling around the world. He retired at forty-nine and lives very comfortably in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Don't know what your daughter wants to do, but she has an open door in front of her. My nephew barely got through high school and is a ferry captain in Portland. She could easily get a position like that with any technical degree at MMA.

Please pass on my congrats and good luck.

No. They are respectful and trustworthy.

In Okinawa they have beer in vending machines. Kids don't touch them because that would be dishonorable

Ted Kaczynski. He said technology would be the death of us.

Kids don't talk or socialize because they text or chat or Instagram or Tick Tock...
Adults are rude because everyone is either looking to get their 15 minutes of fame or the internet or cable TV has convinced everyone that everything is a slight against them and they should stand up for themselves.

Two weeks ago I was in Prescott Arizona. Fantastic little city. I loved it because it wasn't Walmart and Costco but a thriving small business downtown with very pleasant people.

If you find someplace perfect, don't go there - you'll ruin it!

Have you ever just lingered in the Political Forum and silently watched the banter? It's mind boggling how closed-minded people can be. It's as if people cannot accept that two things can be true at the same time. And that people are so hell bent on being correct they cannot accept the opinion of another poster. It's crazy.

It was like that for a long time here but seem we are more and more open to accepting one another's opinion.

Politics and religion are two subjects where there are no open minds. In the Politics Forum in HOOPS, even a fact is dismissed as folly by the extremists on either side. When a fact is presented, it becomes a name calling session because it cannot be accepted. It happens in here from time to time, but much less since the Patriots have fallen on hard times.

Anyone remember the days when the Jets, Ravens and Dolphins fans spent five days a week in this forum???

Exactly. The forum a lot of the time is an exercise in futility
