That was because the Rams had built a solid team with what are considered pedestrian players from the draft pundits perspectives then added FAs at the right time. They gave-up a ton of draft capital and they drafted well. But now, they are screwing things up because they restructured contracts to milk every bit of money they can get to sign the next big FA like Mathieu from the Chiefs but they have now hit the wall.But you got a ring, so it’s worth it.
Now try being the saints the last few years and getting nothing
They can't extend everyone and still sign these top FAs and they have lost once already and are about to lose Mathieu because they don't have the money to pay him what he wants. It was the same reason they lost Von Miller.
The Rams did however, wait out their string of bad contracts that saddled them with 35 mil in dead money. Those contracts have been completed and come off the books this year, but they remain hamstrung until the cap increase next year and hopefully no more dead money.
