Agree on Star Wars and Marvel, I will quit a show/movie if it just flat out sucks. But with Tolkien, I'm a glutton for punishment. I sat through all three of those Hobbit movies.
I'm the same way with the Tolkien stuff. Just like Kenobi I'll watch the whole thing.

The Rings of Power is ok so far. It was slow, but it did pick up toward the end of the 2nd episode, so it gets more time from me. I get that some backstory is necessary, so i'll give it another couple of tries.

I didn't really have an issue with the black dwarves or harfoot--they seemed natural imo. OTOH, the black elf seemed a little out of place imo, but it wasn't a glaring thing for me.

I agree. My dislike for, and giving up on, Kenobi had nothing to do with the characters' races/sexes. I gave up on the show b/c of lazy writing and bad story lines. I'm not gonna watch it through just b/c it says Star Wars, Tolkein, or Marvel on the label.
With the Kenobi thing the young black lady supposedly got a lot of racial shit thrown at her but was it really racial or was it that the character sucked? Not her fault, there's only so much you can do with an over the top just plain bad character. The other inquisitors weren't any better.

What I'm hoping is that this Rings series goes on for 5 or 6 seasons. In which case I won't mind the slow rollout.

I really want to like this series. The graphics are pretty great from what I've seen so far. And I do love me some bloody mayhem with swords and axes

I'm not as into the GOT level of violence/gore, but looking forward to some fight scenes. They've got to have the Last Alliance in there somewhere

Watched the first episode the other night. I liked it... Didn't read any of the books so I am a little behind on comprehension of things but it seems like it should be good

Watching with the old lady, she's never been into the books either so I have to stop it every 15 minutes to bring her up to speed

I'm assuming the ELF King knew he was sending those warriors to die, right?

Which ones? You talking about the first episode, the ones that died in the far north fighting the ice troll?

Fair enough.

Most people I know who even attempted to read The Silmarillion thought it dry and washed out on reading the whole thing.

So... it's not just you. ;)

I read maybe 20 pages. Desperately wanted to love it but didn't. LOTR on the other hand changed my life.

Sorry the ones who came back after fighting the ice trolls and were "sent" to the "new world as a Present for fighting

Ah, gotcha...but that's not death, that's going to back to Valinor, where many of them came from originally. The Elves lived in peace in Valinor, before the first Dark Lord stole their fancy jewels and took them to Middle Earth. Then many of the Elves known as Noldor came across the ocean to Middle Earth, to try and get the jewels back. Galadriel, who jumps off the boat before it goes back to Valinor, was among those Elves who left for Middle Earth at the start of the First Age. Hope that's not too confusing

Oh, gotcha.. The scene made it seems like they were all going to die when she jumped off the ship

Agree, I didn't really like the way they did that, looked like the Elves had to pass through to a different plane of existence. I always thought they could just sail right up to Valinor without any fancy flashes of light, or anything.

Ok, glad I am not the only one who thought that and it made it seem like they were going to die. I really thought that's why she jumped off the ship, Yes I know she jumped off because she didn't want to leave without finishing off the job of killing what's his name but the way that scene was made it seem like they were being led to their deaths

How much is Prime per month?
I get it free for belonging to Amazon Prime. 10 years ago it was $99 a year. Went up to $119 and last year was bumped up to $139.

If you buy on Amazon, you get free shipping and 5% back on your credit spending. I spent about $6000 last year. Shipping costs were zero. I got back about $500 in rewards and applied it to items I purchased. Plus I get Prime on my TV for free. Oh yeah and you get 1 day delivery. Sometimes it's same day.
