Broadcast News (1987)

A James L. Brooks masterpiece about the goings on at a DC affiliate of a national news network. In the late 80’s national news started to trend towards more fluff and less biting journalism. Our main characters have to navigate their profession, their feelings for each other, their egos and their ethics. Starring Holly Hunter, William Hurt and Albert Brooks.

A bit of trivia to your post.

A lot of that film was shot here in Port Alberni. And most in BC in general. BC Ferries, etc.

The running on log booms scene. The hotel they were in just before that. The scene shot looking up Argyle St that had Mt Arrowsmith (a real mountain) in the back ground.

Titanic (1997)

So I finally got around to this masterpiece. It’s over 3 hours long and feels over 3 hours long. It was better than i expected and I like how the story was framed from the modern day exploration angle.

Quantamania

Absolute shit show. It didn’t know if it wanted to be a live action movie or a cartoon. If it were a cartoon, maybe I would have forgiven some of its clear plot holes and story illogicalities. But as it was, it was almost as bad as Thor L&T.

2/10 (an that might be generous)

Guardians 3

This IP does not disappoint. Big cast, and they gave every character sufficient time and character growth. Good introduction of a future major character, without making him any kind of centerpiece (this bodes well for the future of the DCEU).

The post credit scenes were a disappointment, though.

8/10

Dungeons and Dragons.

Eh, I Didn't like it much. I did enjoy the easter egg from the old DnD cartoon show toward the end.

I just added this to my queue. I have very low expectations, so I think I have a small chance to enjoy it.

I found a few old classics with similar themes at archive.org recently.

Island of Lost Souls (1932) is about a stowaway on a cargo ship who gets dropped off at an uncharted island where ghastly experiments on humans are being conducted. The picture quality was notably better than the copy I downloaded several years ago.

The Most Dangerous Game (1932) is about a small island where the resident hunts his guests as game. archive.org had a colorized version of this, with very good picture quality.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Finally got around to this one last night. Really great cinematography. Not sure what the full point of the movie was other than to show how fucking pointless and evil war is. No idea how I didn't realize it was a German film. It was good. Don't need to watch it again.

Air. I was surprised at how much I liked it. A lot of interesting factual nuggets in the movie too. Damon and Davis were good in it. Nice to see Chris Tucker in a movie again. And Wow did Jordan's agent come off as a D-bag! (no doubt Falk's version of the story is different).

A Man Called Otto. Eh, it was ok. Almost from the beginning, you could tell what was going to happen. I'd never watch it again. If you haven't seen it, you're not missing anything.

I like James Cameron’s movies usually but I can barely get through that movie when the wife makes me watch it. Wasn’t a huge fan of Avatar either, all glitter, no substance.

Fair enough. The guy launching himself off the boat and getting a dose of reality from the propeller made it all worthwhile to me years ago when I went to see it with three women in my family (yes I was a kid, not much choice in the matter). Oh, and Kate's tits at the time were great too... least there was that.

my problem with Air was the credits... why did it have to be all about Michael.. the movie was not about him... there was no reason to do a jordan love piece at the end and in the credits...

its funny... I grew up in the 90's so i was a big Bulls fan... Loved michael... after the LAST DANCE documentary, i really started to hate him... and now i hate any time people talk about him... he somehow became one of least favourtie PEOPLE in US history...

Jordan was involved, asked for & received a few script & cast alterations and probably influenced that bit of ass-kissing at the end. Full disclosure - I am not an MJ fan.
