I saw this shit in the movie theater. So disappointed. A robot acting like an idiot 13-year-old. The car jacking scene made me laugh. The trailer totally misrepresented it's self.
It was just a vehicle for that shit music duo. They are apparently pretty huge in SA, and they were trying to break into the American market.

A friend of mine picked this movie to see at the theater. I haven't let her pick a movie since. The opening scene with Jackman, was...OMFG. It was funny and made me cringe. Kate did a fantastic job responding to that.

The Jackman scene was tough to watch, but his little finger sniff after scratching his "chin" killed me!

Watched Pan's Labyrinth again for the first time since it came out. I remember being disappointed with it and had it as one of the more overrated movies of the past decade or so.

Its such an angry and gross political movie with some fairy tale elements and some really good makeup. Its weird that most movies that have a difficult mix of tones usually get panned and this one is considered nearly flawless by critics somehow. The acting, special effects and sound are all great but the script isnt made for most people.
The mom doesn't believe in magic which causes her to die and then like the next day you see her as Queen of the other world. The creature under the bed was hidden away by a demon that eats babies which is also weird. The girl is born as a princess and doesn't really do much of anything noteworthy including totally botching the entire pale man scene yet is 'rewarded' in the end for not following orders without reason. The pale man demon in general is a bit silly. Eyes on your hands seems like a bad way to fight. Slow movement speed and terrible balance. It seems like the only thing it could eat are things that fly right next to its mouth. The whole thing is admittedly creepy but the girl totally botched that whole thing and probably should've died right there. The whole plan to make her a princess seems totally convoluted and rather cruel as she has to leave behind everyone she knows who will age and die.

I enjoyed the rebellion a bit more the 2nd time viewing as a knew thats what the movie was mostly about going into it this time. Its mostly by the numbers but when being paired with the fantasy element that is unique in its grotesque nature then it remains compelling enough to move the action along. One thing is for sure: the Spanish captain is awful at his job. Like every part of the job. Everyone he shoots is in the back or totally disarmed and helpless. Such an angry movie. Definitely not for kids though it sticks with you.

The Legend of Tarzan

Pretty cool flick. Very different from the usual drawn out Tarzan story. This movie takes place years down the road after the original story, where Tarzan has adapted to modernized life but is soon pulled back into Africa. They use flashbacks to tell the original story, so if you haven't seen the originals then don't worry because it still does enough to explain everything. Large amounts of cgi/fx put into this movie so its worth the extra money to see it in IMAX. As you can probably assume, the story is a little far-fetched and some of the action scenes get a little silly... But nevertheless its still an entertaining film.

The Negotiator: 3.5/5 stars. Sammy Jackson was just ok, and the story line wasn't too interesting, but a great performance from Spacey and a good ending. I'd recommend if you're looking for a '90s action flick.

As good as Tarzan's New York Adventure? Johnny Weissmuller supposedly jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, all to rescue Boy?

Jason Bourne - 6.5/10

Paul Greengrass is gonna Greengrass. Lots of shaky camera & angle cutting. It's entertaining enough but the script felt a little stale & Alicia Vikander felt miscast in her role. If you are a Bourne fan, you will probably enjoy it enough to overlook this movie's flaws.

The Equalizer

Typical Denzel action film. You know what you're getting into before you watch it. That said. 7/10

Wasn't the mix of tones kind of the point though? Escaping the all too horrible reality for another world? I was blown away by the movie when I saw it. I'd heard some buzz, but didn't know much about it. I'd rank it up there with Saving Private Ryan, with just being hit in the face by a movie. (SPR's first :30 anyway)

Not sure why you'd consider the movie 'political,' as it's clearly based on what happened with fascist governments coming to power. I guess the Nazi's get all the movie love, but Spain and Italy also had fascist regimes.

In these days of watered down films that don't take chances, Pan's leapt off the diving board hoping there was water in the pool. The only criticism I'd make of Del Toro, is that he could tone back the creature design a wee bit.

He's totally influenced by the monster movie genre though.

I agree with the 'not for kids' though. My daughter is 16, and I'd still be a bit leery of recommending it for her.

It took chances, I'll give you that. Its just not for me. I wouldn't put it anywhere near Saving Private Ryan but maybe it's something I'll appreciate it in time. It's not something I'd put near Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, either. I guess I just don't get it

Never seen Princess. Spirited Away is very similar in the allegorical nature of the two stories, and the fairy-tale structure (completing tasks to do away with the big-bad.)

Captain Vidal is the big bad wolf. He must be resisted, because that's what good people do. They resist evil.

I cribbed the Little Red reference from this guy: who actually wrote his master's thesis on the movie. Heh.
