Star Trek First Contact.

Seems like a throwback to older star trek cheesy plots including time travel and saving earth while listening to classic rock in a post ww3 setting. Some awful dialogue that is saved by a very strong cast of characters. The Borg are interesting enough to carry the movie but fairly forgettable overall. I'd give it a B.

Tombstone! Another amazing cast. Val Kilmer absolutely kills it as Doc Holiday. 9/10

Saw 'Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad"

Never seen a Naked Gun before so this seemed like a good place to start. After some great opening scenes I was pretty let down by most of the movie until the third act. Once everyone gets to the baseball field, the whole thing turns into comedy gold. So I guess my only complaint is that it could've easily been cut down to about an hour but that hour is pretty darn funny. Other than that, my 2 main takeways:

1. Seeing OJ Simpson being a human pin cushion for violence is probably significantly funnier now than it was in the 80s. OJ sneaking around with a gun and I'm rooting for the bad guys. Good stuff.

2. I think there were at least a dozen scenes where i thought 'so this is where Austin Powers got that gag' and the whole movie had an Austin Powers feel. To Austin Powers credit, while a lot of it was ripped off I felt like the supporting casts of those movies were much stronger and Mike Meyers was versatile enough to get the most out of almost every joke.

Solid B+ if you dont mind skipping scenes

Whiskey Tango Foxtrox:

Above average film, well acted, solid story. Not a comedy, a drama with some comedy thrown in. Solid film.

Batman vs Superman Extended Cut:

This film is like eating bittersweet chocolate, just did absolutely nothing for me. It wasn't bad or as bad as it was made out to be but definitely wasn't that good. It was average. They couldn't have gotten a worse Lex Luther if they tried, Eisenberg is AWFUL. The guy is on par with Toby Maguire level awful acting. Midway through I found myself saying it was actually good, but the fight scenes were meh at best. Not disappointed because I expected less than nothing, but it could win the award for OK'est movie. Nothing special.

Free State of Jones, good movie, good performances, good history lesson. It was over two hours long and didn't feel like it.

7.5 out of 10

I think the big criticism of the movie mostly stems from the fact that the story was never really made for the movie format. If broken down entirely, the book could have been a 10 hour TV season with more actors and less makeup. I think a more traditional movie would've focused on just the Sonmi and After-Fall settings. The Sonmi story makes for the best sci fi while lots of the other parts are carried by the acting. Ultimately its a very sad movie about karma and reincarnation being put forth in the most optimistic way possible and yet still falling short of any ideal just due to the nature of inequality.

I'm glad I saw it once but its not something Id watch over and over again. In some ways the movie is quite brilliant in the fact that it can exist in the first place.

Quick question...

Was Saito planning to Hari kari in front of the train, but was distracted by the events that followed?
