Caught up on the recent Pixar movies...

Inside Out & The Good Dinosaur

Good movies as usual. Always do a good job with connecting with the audience. Far from my favorite of their work, but worth the watch with the family. Inside Out was a lot more creative.

I'd give both a 7/10

Walton Goggins stole it, IMHO. I thought he deserved a Supporting Actor nod for it.

I'm probably biased as a huge fan of Shield and Justified but I agree with Cals that Goggins was a flat out stud. Amazing. He needs to be on the big screen more often as much as I do like him on TV

SLJ and Russell were obviously fantastic as well.

Haven't seen the latter, but Inside Out was pretty great and actually quite profound as well. I'm on record saying it was my favorite movie of the year.

I am also on record, acknowledging I don't get out much, so...

Agreed. He was great. I don't think I've seen his performance called out here. Some have cited Goggins for special props. I didn't care for Goggins' performance. He just didn't ring true to me for some reason... and I usually really like his work.

Mad Max - Fury Road. It was terrific. Not in a theater.. I don't think it's even playing around here anymore. But on 65" and I cranked up the sound bar and woofer. I'm going to watch it again, though, because it was sort of hard to figure out exactly what was going on for the first 45 minutes or so in real time.

I tried to watch American Sniper right after it but it wasn't holding my attention. I'll give it another shot sometime when I haven't just watched Fury Road. I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Saw The Revenant last night.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't the most riveting story or even that "entertaining" in the modern-sense of the word, but it was epic nonetheless.

The scenery, the soundtrack (er' whatever ya call it?) and the cinematography were amazing. The bear scene may be one of the greatest scenes I've ever seen. Wonderfully done.

Felt the same way. Leo will be bringing home an Oscar for this one. Filming in natural light was amazing (apparently a hassle for the crew from what I've read) and the landscape was breathtaking.

My girlfriend kept complaining that what Leo's character went through and accomplished was hard to believe. I could see her point a few times, but survival instinct (and the burning need for revenge) can allow humans to accomplish amazing things.

btw, my Cousin saw the movie with a veteran friend of his and his buddy had a seizure that they think was PTSD related after watching that scene. After seeing it, I can understand why.

8.5/10
