.....the same people that thought "the hurt locker" was ~Best-Picture~ nominee......(...and winner?).American Sniper
Finally got around to watching it.
Good war movie. Did a good job of showing what he went thru.
Don't get why people thought it should have won an Academy Award.
Got a little boring in parts. It could have been 20 minutes shorter.
6/10
I guess I could start with what I liked: Samuel L Jackson. I thought he was funny and fully aware of the camp value of his character.Kingsmen? Really?
You are the first person I have heard say anything other than that movie was awesome. I suggest you watch it again, but with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek. I thought it was a GREAT movie.

Everything I hated: It was a movie that seemed like it was written by 14 years olds for 14 year olds. Kid saving his mom from his violent step dad is cliche but they managed to make every character unlikable. The fight scenes were overused and cut in a way where they didn't actually have to show what happened. Action scene with Freebird should've been the highlight of the movie but I really thought it showed why the fight camera didn't work. Sometimes action movies can run off a gimmick and it works. Dredd is an excellent example.
Its a movie thats fully aware that we are decentralized to violence so the whole movie is a joke made around that. Its a real shame because there are a half dozen top flight actors in Kingsman and the joke is never really funny. Just kinda awkward. Oh hey, Obama's head explodes into fireworks..um ok. 1984 death scene? Sure. Anal sex joke taken the whole way? Of course it was.
The movie also had an entire act that didn't need to exist. The competition between rival agents was ridiculous. Not every movie needs a Hunger games reality show competition. The elites vs guy off the street thing is a fantasy. The elites mop the walk on every time unless he gets lucky. Being able to bust through walls and glass like the Rock or Superman isn't realistic.
In a lot of ways, the movie was a bad version of Men in Black. Since we have 2 good Men in Black movies, it really is just a waste of time.
Maybe I was just in the wrong mood to see the movie. That happens sometimes.Except I don't think the movie was ever trying to be serious or realistic. It was camp from first frame to last.

I saw the 'documentary' on Kurt Cobain's death called Soaked in Bleach. It was pretty straightforward but compelling enough to suggest that Kurt Cobain's death investigation was totally botched and Courtney Love had a great motive to kill him. I don't think they present enough info to totally rule out suicide but we'll never know because Love had everything destroyed. Its a movie that pretty much confirms everything I thought I knew as a kid which is pretty rare.
I think the Heroin part is pretty easy to explain: its really hard to work up the nerve to shoot yourself. Its possible he takes the drugs as a backup plan in case he misses with the gun and shoots himself before the drugs kick in.The most interesting evidence was that death grip on the rifle and the shell coming out the opposite side and landing on a jacket as if the casing was placed there. Maybe if his knee was up and it ricochet over, but thats the only chance. As far as the 3X the death limit of Heroin in the blood would have made it nearly impossible to even pull that trigger. Yes, he probably had to take more than your standard user, but to maintain consciousness after shooting it and putting the syringe and spoon away after that dose?

The bullet is impossible to explain unless he fired a warning shot and/or someone tampered with the evidence before his body was found.
I have no idea how that wasn't seen as a probable murder investigation from the start. It makes you wonder how there can be 2 narratives of Cobain's death floating around without any real questions being asked. The Montage of Heck seems to be the film that has gotten 10x the traction but one of Cobain's friends called it 90% bullsh--.
