"Learning" isn't something that only happens in a classroom though. And are you really suggesting that the intellect of the average NBA or NFL player is greater than that of the average NHL player? I know it isn't everything, but I'm sure you've listened to NFL and NBA players being interviewed. Do many of them sound like they picked up a ton of knowledge while in college?
Maybe not a ton...................but 4 or 5 ounces for sure. :L

Caps prospect Madison Bowey with a great no look pass.

Although it could have just looked better thanks to the next generation's Mike Green defending.

I think an argument can be made that there is a somewhat higher intellect amongst leagues where post-secondary education is mandated by the league as opposed to the NHL where kids basically stop learning at 15.

The argument only holds if the student-athletes actually, you know, attend class, pass exams, etc.

Thousands of documented cases where illiterate athletes have "attended" US colleges

Ho-Sang has been doing & saying all the right things. Apparently he's been very coachable. Dal Colle reminds me of Tavares in terms of his temperament. He's very mature for his age. Garth Snow said before prospect camp that if anyone from the 2014 draft class made the team it would be rushing them. Both Dal Colle & Ho-Sang will likely be headed back to the OHL after training camp. Which is a good thing. I think Ho-Sang has a chance to be the steal of the draft.

I'm definitely a believer in allowing players to develop properly. In this case, I definitely think they're both good enough and could help the Isles, but I think it's probably best to give them time.

The fact that the Sabres have the Isles 1st round pick this year is just coincidence.

Looking at the Isles roster I'm not worried about the 1st round pick. This team is better in goal. Will be better offensively & the D is going to be better than people think. The Isles are likely to move Brock Nelson to LW. They have 6 Centers. I'll be shocked if they finish in the bottom 5 next year.

Wasn't able to get down to the scrimmage, but I'm watching online. Kapenen has taken two shifts. I giggled with excitement during both. He looks like a man amongst boys out there, even though he's probably the youngest there. Made Scott Harrington look a bit silly. By far the most offensive ability out there.

I think I had this conversation on another thread about D-prospects being all about speed these days, but man...it's all of them. Speed kills out there. Marcantouni, Kitchner Rangers kid, has blazing speed, led to a goal when he went right around Dumolin (another NHL ready D prospect on the squad). Another kid: CONNOR SHEARY. He signed a playoff deal with WBS last year, and just tore up the AHL postseason. He continues to look great out there today. Speed and finish. UMass-Amherst product.

Relevant: Mark Recchi, MD will be taking over as player development coach for the Pens. Also they had 6,500 fans there for camp today. Not too shabby.

Jarry looks a bit shaky in goal today, let in 2 so far, but his team hasn't helped much by having very little puck possession.
