And David Clarkson just fell down. :L

David Clarkson isn't going to be on the second line. Weiss will. :)

Looks like the Oilers are trying some tough love:

During their prospects camp, the Edmonton Oilers spent a night in the wilderness with no shelter, foraging for food and water, supervised by a U.S. Army Ranger who is a veteran of the Middle East conflicts

Day one at Jackets camp was an hour on ice and the rest was off ice stuff. Apparently they had an hour long meeting on handling money and sudden fame. Not sure I remember them doing that before, but it was intended to "help them be professionals on and off the ice". That's probably a really good idea and I hope most teams do it.

On the ice, the big standout was Alexander Wennberg, but a few others were notable as well. There is an undrafted defenseman named Ryo Hashimoto who was promoted by the Japan national team. They called the Jackets and asked if he could come to camp to show what he's got. If he makes it, he will be only the second Asian trained player to make the NHL (Kings goalie Fukufuji was first - now you don't have to look it up). Shame he's a defenseman. That's the toughest spot to make this team.

Goalie Elvis apparently surprised people with how easily he got into Ian Clark's routine. But apparently the reason he was selected is because Ian Clark's good friend Leo Luongo was his coach in Switzerland. The depth chart looks like AHL #1 - Anton Forsberg / Backup Korpisalo ECHL #1 Dansk / Backup Elvis. Unless Ouellette wants to leave college. Ouelltte is the only North American Goalie outside of Tabasco in the system...

About 10 current Jackets were at the rink watching as well, including Dalton Prout who said he is glad to be able to work out on his terms and not spending hours on an exam table (abdominal injury last summer). He's up to 230 lbs.

The NFL or NBA (or both) do that for all rookies. Not sure why the NHL wouldn't, seeing as how every NBA/NFL'er has been to University at least while most NHLers stop learning at 15.

Geez, that's the equivalent of swapping the donuts out of the media room in favour of a vegetable tray.

I hope they don't hire the same people to give the talk to NHLers that do the NFL/NBA talks.

Have you had a chance to notice Olivier Leblanc at all yet? If so, how is he looking? He's a long shot to ever make the NHL but I'm curious how he might look among the other young prospects.

I haven't been down yet this year. Hoping to get there tomorrow or Thursday.

I'll keep an eye out for him. Hard to crack this lineup as a D man.

The kid does have a sweet pair of mitts, I guess he didn't interview all that well which is the reason he dropped to #24 where the Canucks nabbed him (Flames could have taken him at #22, but they selected Emile Poirier instead of Hunter). It will be interesting to compare these two guys in a few years to see if the Flames made the right decision.
