Miami's #31 ejection from the game...NOT a good call in my OP, kid hit the opp player in the crown of the chest and NOT the head.

NCAA blows corn IF thats grounds for an ejection from the game.

thoughtz?

did not think it was targeting, imo. The receiver was coming down, and the defender was just tackling, not launching himself. In fact, his feet never left the ground.

Looked to me like the defender came in lowering his head which is by definition leading with his helmet and it was in fact the helmet that made first contact. It appeared as though the top of his helmet made contact with the receivers face mask forcing his head back on the way to the ground.

Do I like it? No. Was it a valid ejection under the rules? Yes.

As the rule is written, it was correct. It certainly wasn't intentional, and didn't launch. It's a crappy rule, on the one hand, but on the other the intent is to prevent injury. If you can prevent a needless injury, that would be good.

MEMO to U:

The stomach is located BELOW the chest cavity where the lungs are. You must have a BIG GUT....:laugh3:

have you ever been hit in the gut? makes you exhale more than getting hit in the chest would.

1. Spearing is the DELIBERATE use of the helmet to inflict punishment on the opposing player.
2. No player shall INTENTIONALLY strike the opposing player with the crown or top of his helmet
3. No player shall INTENTIONALLY use his helmet, including the facemask, to butt or ram an opponent.

The review booth will review the play and overturn if the replay booth disagrees with the call on the field.

Correct call according to the NCAA rules, especially with the concerns for concussions being very, very strong.
