No it wouldn't. What a stupid statement. It was the highest scoring Cotton Bowl in history. Memphis was in the game until the interception at the 2 yard line with 5 minutes left. Memphis higher attendance for home games than Utah. With the Memphis loss, the G5 is now 3-3 in the NY6.

They have no 4 or 5 star recruits and played well. They score nine times against one of the top 10 defenses in the country and were in the game in the 4th quarter.

My own idea is a points system that basically is Games Won Opponents' Wins - Games Lost Opponents' Losses. Ideally , all FBS teams would play equal or equal maximum game schedules versus FBS only. If not this idea, there are no doubt countless ideas that are better than voting who makes it. The most important thing is actual rules will tell G5 teams what they have to accomplish to contend for a playoff spot.

Yeah, you are going to get a system where teams like UCF will continue to avoid any team with a pulse and still cry how the system is unfair. “We can’t control the record of our opponents so we should still go to the playoffs”

The game featuring the G5 team in the NY6 really loses its appeal when the G5 team isn't undefeated.

I think they need to add a qualifier to the rule.

If there are no undefeated G5 teams, there is no automatic bid.

Penn State-Alabama or Penn State-Utah would have had much more appeal.

Penn State just won the Cotton Bowl and my opinion of them changed zero.

Meh. Seems like a lot of work to cater to some low budget teams that would never contend for a natty under any ruleset =.

I think they're ranked close to where they should be. I think 11 wins will be their ceiling with James Franklin though. Which is really good, but he's never gonna get them over the top.

Rules would be good for P5 teams too. Of course, if it is too much to cater to G5 teams by providing rules for making the playoffs, why not simply split the division after all? Why keep them around just to get to 7-8 home games, count these games towards which P5 teams make the playoffs and pretend P5 vs G5 games have any credibility?
