Yes, once his mother submitted the paternity test, he belongs to whoever you were texting.
When was the last time you encountered someone asking for a maternity test, on a born person?

I guess that could happen if an estranged woman shows up with the child, and rather than the father get a paternity test to see if the child is his, if he had a suspicion that the child might not be the woman's (maybe she was using a niece or nephew, or maybe she kidnapped it), then that would be one hypothetical situation?

Or, maybe the male is coming back from serving in the military, and he was unaware his wife had been pregnant. And didn't think she was. And he shows up, and sees a surprise newborn. So he asks for a maternity test to see if she had been pregnant. Maybe she gave birth at home, so there's no hospital records of the birth. Nor other doctor appointments.

Or maybe the man doesn't even remember sleeping with the woman, and she doesn't look she ever had been pregnant.

Or maybe it's like "Three Men And A Baby", where the baby just appears on the doorstep. Then if the father wants to know whose it could have been, he asks a few woman he had slept with, to get a maternity test, to see if it's theirs.

So the will didn't have a definite time table, such as "until the dog is no longer alive"?

What else could the girlfriend have claimed, in relation so the dog payment issue?

California is a community property state so they don’t actually have to be married as long as they are together for a certain number of years. I don’t think they qualify because they weren’t living together, I don’t think anyone else believes that they were married, he often called her his friend to others, he didn’t leave her in the world as anything other than the person to take care of the dog, and I don’t think that the relationship was that long… but in law, you often do not put to chance of having them prove something because it cost money and time to do so.

The will likely said for the upkeep of the dog, and so therefore that is assumed that it is for as long as the dog is living. I don’t think you could likely win an argument that he intended on payment beyond the life of the dog in order to support the dog.

Or maybe the man doesn't even remember sleeping with the woman

This would be a moot point, unless someone else was claiming to be the mother. Because if he did not remember having relations with that woman, and the woman is taking care of that baby, they would just test him to make sure that he was the father.

However, if another woman claimed this baby was hers, and that woman is claiming the baby, they would have a maternity test. It is possible to be a mother to one baby that is switched at birth and so therefore you would want to know which one is yours. One might have that test and find out the baby is not theirs and have no idea where the baby that you did deliver is.
