Joe Maddon comes in, makes the playoffs four out of the five seasons he’s there and breaks a 100+ World Series drought, and you part ways with him??

Hope it’s another 100 years.

I wish the streak was still alive.

But, yeah, they're not gonna get a better manager.

I guess you don’t ever watch the Pirates?

They fired Hurdle today but yet keep GMNH around and Nutting might be the worst owner in the league.

On top of that this team had a kiddie didler, a hot head reliever and a bench coach starting fights.

Girardi to Chicago.

Maddon to Pittsburgh where he can stick it to Epstein.

I could see Maddon going to San Diego too.

That is a more likely scenario. I don’t see any manager wanting the Pirate job. They really don’t have much to offer and if you are an up and coming coach that job would most like kill any chances of future opportunities.

Do like the Braves did in their last coaching search. Hire a lifer in the organization that all the players are familiar with and have a lot of respect for.

But firing Clint Hurdle was stupid too. What exactly was he supposed to do with that roster, and injuries?

He might have had a better shot if the team still had Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow, and no Chris Archer.

They tried that before with McClendon and truthfully that might their only option.

Oh Exactly his firing was awful. The front office and ownership is the problem.

Hurdle is a jerkoff who should've been fired two years ago. Not surprised the cubs made a knee jerk move, they didn't have a century long championship drought by accident.

Don’t think anyone is arguing that Hurdle is good. But the Pirates really have no hope as long as the FO is there. So in that sense no one with any managerial talent would want this job.

Big cubs fan here. Maddon was great at the start. Even though he severely mismanaged the cubs and almost blew their World Series win, he was great for the upcoming players. Now it’s time for him to go to another young team. Maddon is always at his best when he first starts with a team, then they get too complacent and it shows in the standings. It happened in Tampa and then again in Chicago. The cubs need a change of pace. With the talent on that roster, they should’ve won close to 100 games. They severely underachieved. I respect Maddon for what he did, but it was time for him to go.

Forgot Jeff Bannister was back in the Pirates organization. He is almost guaranteed the Job.

I always thought Maddon would end up on the Phillies one day so maybe this is their chance. On the other hand I want to see how Kapler's managerial career plays out as well. I love how all the old school people seem to dislike him.

Kapler needs more time. 2 years ain't enough of a time to judge him by.

He does, but it's hard to not take a shot at Maddon when he's available. Plus I think Kapler would like to get back to San Diego before his tan fades. It would be a win-win to let him go now.

Almost blew the WS? He came back from a 3-1 deficit. If it wasn't for him making moves they wouldn't have made it to a Game 7.

That 2016 Chicago Cub pitching was on a totally different level than the 2017-2019 teams. No manager was going to duplicate those results imo.
