It's a want, not a need. Especially after drafting Flowers and signing Beckham. The cap is in fact finite, even if you can manipulate it.

It is a need because Hopkins is immensely better than any of them and could very well be the best WR the Ravens have ever had in their franchise history if he signs. There is no other contending team that would be upgraded more by signing Hopkins than the Ravens would be. Chiefs come close but I think it would be a far bigger benefit to Lamar than it would be to Mahomes.

Hopkins isn't even their biggest problem... it's still the midget locked up for another 2-3 years.

With the Cardinals obviously tanking a year after the Bears tanked, I'm wondering if we need to start talking about a draft lottery.

I can see things headed that way possibly. But it's been one of those things that gets brought up every few years and they haven't done it yet so who knows. I think the failures of those teams who get that first pick has shown that the tanking thing really doesn't work out anyway. Shitty organizations and bad front offices will continually fuck up.

I think if we see the Bears make the playoffs, the Bengals make the Super bowl and the Cardinals get the #1 pick there will be a serious conversation.

Although there is probably only a small chance all three happen

Maybe so. I don't know. It's just that looking back, Luck and Burrow have been the only 2 so called tank picks that have panned out. Burrow has already made it to 1 SB and the team is a contender but they also built a solid roster and have good coaching. I don't really consider the Bears because they traded out and the Cardinals picked Murray just a few years ago and have basically fucked that up. The Jags are TBD. Not sure if they tanked so much as the Jets fucked up tanking for Lawrence. You may be right though partner. It wouldn't surprise me.

Looking for a July snowstorm here in Vegas, that's the signal for me placing some serious coin on my Bears going deep in January.

Wouldn't honestly dismiss the idea. The NFC is mostly rancid outside of the Eagles and even the NFC North is ripe for the picking. Are the Bears a legit playoff contender? No. But there aren't more than like 3-4 of them in the NFC right now. One of those contenders starts Brock Purdy unironically and another starts Jared Goff.

Dak Prescott is arguably the 2nd best QB in the NFC... Dak Prescott!

Does any WR move the needle that much? Let alone a guy outside the top 10? I think that's where the disconnect is.

The Bills already have Diggs. The Chiefs already have Kelce. The Bills are very high on Kincaid. The Chiefs are very high on Toney. They aren't desperate for A receiver. The Ravens already blew their load on Odell, which hey I don't agree with and prefer Hopkins to Odell by a lot, but they did that.

I don't think good GM's like Beane/Veach are going to be handing out ~20M AAV to Hopkins. It's nearly June, Hopkins is gonna have to eat the financial L at some point. The Bills and Chiefs are in a position where they can and should to an extent think longterm. They are not gonna be one and done as far as contention goes. And there's always a WR available.

DHop wants 3/$60M guaranteed. Everyone thinks that the Bills and Chiefs will bid against each other. Neither team has the cap space to fit that contract right now and will have to renegotiate multiple contracts and spend a gazillion in bonuses to sign him. Then have a dead money and future bonus money nightmares. Smart owners are not going to threaten their team's future for one guy tomorrow. Belichick doesn't pay anyone, even his Qbs. He wouldn't py Jakobi Meyers $16M. Plus who wants to pay a guy who will miss half the season with a tweaked Hammie or sprained ankle?
????

He was suspended for quite a few games last season.....you know that right?

30+ YO slow as molasses possession WR that was just busted for PED's. Camp Hopkins/Koy are being unserious.

If the Bills and Chiefs were so insecure at the idea of Hopkins going to another team/contender, he would've been traded. Not released.

That is true. But the Ravens also set up their entire offense based on Lamar's skillset which is running the ball first. He has never developed as a passer the way Allen and Hurts already have. Not saying he's awful and the lack of playmakers isn't part of it but it just is what it is.
Not true at all.

I feel this neglects Greg Roman's lack of effort in an innovative passing game. Most everyone respects Roman as a run game guru. Lamar can be a lot more than a guy who runs and just a good passer, imo.

I was just pointing out Hop does not miss a lot of games typically......due to injuries.

Absolutely. Eagles finally getting TO in 2004 was game changing. Patriots getting Moss in 2007 took them to a whole different level. Bills getting Diggs completely flipped the trajectory of Josh Allen's career. Burrow getting Jamar Chase took him to a whole other level. We just saw the jump that Hurts took when they added AJ Brown to go along with DeVonta Smith.

Also a guy outside of the top 10? Who are you referring to because both Lamar Jackson and Hopkins are top 10 at their position.
