When Hopkins is offered a contract with a mid-level pretender (with a need and adequate cap space), that is worth $9 million more than any contender offers, we'll see how bad he wants "a chance" for a ring.

I'm basing that on a $13 million 3 year deal from a pretender versus a $10 million 3 year deal from a contender.

Wouldn't honestly dismiss the idea. The NFC is mostly rancid outside of the Eagles and even the NFC North is ripe for the picking. Are the Bears a legit playoff contender? No. But there aren't more than like 3-4 of them in the NFC right now. One of those contenders starts Brock Purdy unironically and another starts Jared Goff.

Dak Prescott is arguably the 2nd best QB in the NFC... Dak Prescott!
Cousin Kirk is 2nd best currently. Very possible he ends this season as best in the NFC

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer writes interest in DeAndre Hopkins is "very tepid from teams" and that he may have to choose between "tak[ing] the bag" and "chase a ring."

Per Breer's reporting, the Chiefs and Bills don't want to pay Hopkins' current asking price and the sense is that Odell Beckham's contract earlier this offseason drove Hopkins' market into a range where neither felt comfortable executing a trade. Hopkins may have to choose between a one-year, mid-range deal in a JuJu Smith-Schuster sort of way or making real money for a team that doesn't have one of the preferred quarterbacks on his list. Breer surveyed evaluators and found a divide on what Hopkins had left, with one anonymous executive saying "He can't run anymore

"He can't run anymore"
One of the execs is a mother fucking retard

10th in yards per game last year with dog shit throwing to him. More yards per game than Travis Kelce.

4th in receptions per game. More than everyone besides Kupp, Jefferson and Chase.

Can't run though. Hopkins turns 80 next Tuesday.

You can’t judge that statement by vomiting stats. You need to actually put on film to evaluate that.

What? Jerry Rice, Steve Largent, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison, and Calvin Johnson were all possession receivers... the most important aspect of being a receiver is to catch the fuckin' ball.. You're useless if you can run an early 40 time and have stone hands...
Exactly, Rice and Largent were 4.7 and Fitz was over 4.6. Kupp is 4.62. WR speed is the most over rated thing there is. Fwiw, DHop was only 4.57 at his pro day so he was never a speed guy. It's about setting up DBs with good route running and being able to make contested catches when it matters. DHop has always had some of the best hands in the business. But it's probably fair to say he's not as fast as he was even. Especially if he doesn't have the ped help. Not saying he's washed here. Just pointing out the flaws in rating these guys based on speed.

Not surprised at all. It's basically June. Teams aren't moving heaven and earth to add an expensive WR on the wrong side of 30, coming off a PED bust.

Your point is a good one, and I know that is what google says about Rice's 40 time, but...

While no official results were published from Rice’s 1985 combine, The Athletic's Bob McGinn reported that a scout in possession of the official results says Rice clocked in at 4.58 back in the days. And Bill Walsh is often quoted as saying Rice ran a 4.59.

Hopkins needs to sign a 1 year prove it deal and get paid next offseason IMO.

Isn't he already getting paid his guaranteed money from the Cards? Just because that was bonus money that he already got, it's still the better part of his salary slated for this season.

When a player is released (or retires), the team is relieved of having the pay the player’s base salary (P5) and any Roster Bonus that may become due after that, but still will need to account for any Signing or Option Bonus prorations that haven’t yet counted against the Salary Cap.

It sounds like he is more interested in money than chasing a ring. That rules out KC and BUF who have little to no cap space.

NE and NYJ make more sense. NY can release Corey Davis and NE has plenty of money.

Understood, but he's chasing 3/60M when he's already "technically" getting most of that $20M from the Cards (or more accurately, already got at signing and restructuring). If he was still a Card, he wouldn't be netting much more than what he already received, and certainly not $20M more.

You are a big fan of DHop I guess.
Are you sleeping with him? You are very defensive of him?????

I think the big thing about WRs is that they're not all the same position. Think about the recent Ohio State WRs. Olave's long speed matters a ton to his game. Long speed is somewhat important to Garrett Wilson. Long speed is irrelevant to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Fitz was forced into the slot at the end of his career IIRC. Kupp is often matched up against LBs and S because of scheme but if you're a Kupp receiver then you better know how to run block.

As far as Rice and Largent is concerned, I wonder if their game speed was better than their 40 stuff. PFF mentioned this year that Jordan Addison's speed on film is measured faster than other guys who had better 40s. I'm sure thats fairly common.

what's the Browns cap look like?

I agree with Watson, DHop belongs in Cleveland.

The Browns would be smart if he wants familiarity since he played with Watson with the Texans. They would be really good if Watson could bounce back. And Hop could really help him do that.
