I thought they got great looks. They just didn't make them. And Jerome played really, really bad in the first half. It was probably coming back to the mean though because of how they shot it the game before against Va Tech. I think UVA is probably slightly better overall on a neutral floor. I'm hoping we get this game 4 times this season like we did Duke/MD in 2001.

Duke was missing their PG which is widely viewed as devastating to any other team. It really was brought to the forefront by Duke going zone. But that also threw a monkey wrench into UVA as they were spreading Duke out and using ball screens while trying to beat Duke's M2M off the dribble. What UVA couldn't do was keep Duke off the boards as they were getting rebounds and stick backs off of misses. Duke is not a good jump shooting team. But prior to the UVA game Duke has done extremely well in transition defense this season, part of the reason the defense is so improved compared with the shit OAD defenses of the past.

41.7% eFG allowed in transition:
Hoop-Math -- Duke basketball play-by-play statistics

42.9% eFG allowed overall, including transition:

But again, most of those games were with Tre Jones sticking his nose in the opposing PG's chest and denying him to run an offense. I'd say the game at Virginia should be tougher because of their home court advantage. Other than that, I'm sure that they would shoot better on a home court anyway. A neutral court I'm not so sure.

you're really under-estimating home court advantage, especially Duke's HCA

and UVa shot 17% from deep during their game @ Duke. That isn't likely to happen again.

also, i'm not under-estimating Duke. They're a great team, I just think UVa is better right now. Plenty of time for Duke to change my mind. It's still January.

So should the question be is a neutral's game floor a better advantage than a starting PG? Again, I'm sure Cameron is the best HC advantage in CBB, but the players win the game no matter where they play.

i'm not going to lie

i made my post under the assumption that Tre Jones would never play another game of basketball again in his life aka i completely forgot about him

In the ACC, no one zones like Syracuse. However, Duke faces a Notre Dame squad that zones more than any ACC team but Cuse and Georgia Tech.

*Duke closes January with only one loss for the first time since 2009

*Most wins against Top 15 opponents than any other school in the country.

*There is one player in the nation averaging 5.0+ assists per game and 2.0+ steals per game with a 5.00+ assist-turnover ratio:

Duke freshman PG Tre Jones
5.59 assists
5.59 assist/turnover ratio
2.1 steals

This current UVA team is the highest rated KenPom team since he started doing his rankings in 2002. They've been historically good, and I feel like they're getting overshadowed.

Agree.

In terms of this UVa team (and it pains me to say this as a Hokie fan), they are not afraid to punch a team in the mouth and not let off the gas until 0.00 is left on the board. They are a really good team this year.

Anything less than the Final 4 for them would be a major dissapointment.

That's a lot of pressure. Tournament is just so unpredictable.

I wonder if UVA fans think Guy or Jerome is the more valuable player.

I've been watching those guys for years.

I think Jerome is the better player. I'd trade anybody on Nova for him...

I think Jerome is better too. More important for them. And a better pro prospect as well.

Jerome is definitely the better of the two. Guy tends to be the better shooter, but Jerome is the better all around player.
