The bottom 5 rankings of worst Coach Effects

1. Lane Kiffin – Stewart has him in the bottom 5 and I have zero complaint with that other than he should be the #1 of the bottom 5. Lane has under performed his talent at EVERY job he has held as head coach. Not one single year as a positive head coach game effect. Over the last 3 years he has the worst game effect per season of any coach.

2. Randy Edsall – ‘Dead man walking’ is the term to define a head coach that posts a -4 game effect or worse in his first year as a head coach in FBS football. All coaches that have done this have NEVER seen a 4th season. Randy has gone -4 and -3 in this first two season. Attrition rates are the worst of any AQ head coach in the last 4 years and recruiting at Maryland is still well below their average.

3. Charlie Weis – This is more like a career ranking versus at Kansas rank. He was awful at Notre Dame (that is why I named the CBFMatrix anti-COY awards after him), he drug down a Gator program as an assistant and unbelievably had almost a bad of a year as could be posted in 2012. Even when he is canned by KU, he is still one of the worst head coaches in the Matrix of all time. Also in Stew’s bottom 5.

4. Mack Brown - How Mack didn’t make the bottom 5, I may never know. But I do know this. No other coach has had a better ratio of lack of attrition and recruited talent the last 7 years than Mack and his staff. And in that period, he has the single worst record of any top 10 recruiter. His 7 year coach effect profile is so poor, that he has no peers as they have all been fired over the last 5 season.

5. Kevin Wilson - Another dead man walking. While the Hoosiers improved in year 2, Wilson is still treading water. Recruiting has and will remain near the bottom of the Big Ten. The home loses, the OOC non-AQ team loses the list in 2 seasons is a shopping list of what not to do to keep your job as a head coach.

Tim Beckman, Illinois. I may be jumping the gun here, but Beckman -- hired at Illinois following a pair of eight-win seasons at Toledo -- has done little to inspire confidence either on the field (2-10 in 2012) or on the recruiting trail with the Illini.
Ron English, Eastern Michigan. Patience is a virtue in Ypsilanti, Mich., where the Eagles have gone 10-38 (7-25 in the MAC) in four seasons under the former Michigan and Louisville defensive coordinator.

Kirk Ferentz, Iowa. The 2009 Orange Bowl proved an aberration in Ferentz's otherwise unimpressive recent tenure. Take away that one 11-2 season and the Hawkeyes are 47-41 since 2005 under their $3.6 million-per-year coach.

Lane Kiffin, USC. Any confidence inspired by a breakthrough 10-2 campaign in 2011 was shattered by last year's 7-6 implosion, when Kiffin's USC squad -- without question -- finished as the biggest underachiever in the country.

Charlie Weis, Kansas. Weis' past five seasons as a college coach consisted of 3-9, 7-6 and 6-6 records at Notre Dame, one 7-6 campaign as Florida's offensive coordinator and a 1-11 debut at Kansas.

Mack has a natty and has played for another one. He is also 3-1 in BCS bowls and has won 2 conference titles. Bo Pelini has 0 conference titles, 0 BCS titles, 0 BCS bowl appearances and loses 4 games a year.

So you're saying Bo Pelini is one of the 5 worst coaches?

I am shocked Mark Richt is on the top 5 best coaches....Sorry. But Georgia's seasons are bi-polar. They come out one year 7-5 the next they are 10-2. So unpredictable.

Also, Brady Hoke is overrated, no need to be on the mentioning list, he had one great year at Michgian and now everyone thinks the Wolverines are a dominant program again. He had Denard Robinson SR year and Michigan didn't even win their division..

Weak troll is weak.

Bo Pelini is middle of the pack at the very worst.

Mack Brown has done so little with so much at Texas it's mind blowing.

If Bo was getting the kind of talent Mack was getting, we'd have 3 national titles under him by now.

Your only possible argument for Mack Brown not being a complete disgrace would be that Texas HS players are overrated as fuck, because UT has been a top 5 ranked recruiting school year in and year out.

You guys won't like this pick because he has a decent record, but I watch Paul Pasqualoni ruin Syracuse football.

Pasqualoni should be in the top 5.

No you wouldn't. That's all pure speculation and opinion on your part. You people seem to think it's very easy to win BCS titles. There are only 2 coaches in the country that have won more BCS titles than Mack Brown. I love how you Corn Holers seem to think CFB started in 2010. Hell, even in Mack's only losing season he still whipped you Corn Holers at our 2nd home in Lincoln. Pelini is garbage and has done nothing. Solich was a 1000 times better coach than Pelini is.....

Kevin Wilson is actually not recruiting that poorly. He's been signing 4 star players, something IU hadn't done in at least 5 years prior to last year. I'm still holding out hope he can start leading us to bowl games.

Losing to Ball St. really is unacceptable though.

2 coaches? I had to look this up, I'll be damned, never seen it that way. But then again the BCS era is relatively young compared to I think the overall picture of what Texas football has done in general of the long history of CFB. Bottom line, in many opinions, Texas has so much right there on their plate, they should be a perennial contender for the NC.

Actually they are both in limited company. Coaches with min 5 yr experience with negative "coaching effect":

1. Mack -3.40
2. Richt -1.40
3. Ferencz -1.00
4. Stoops -.80
5. Beamer -.20
5. Pinkel -.20

that is entire list. There are just 6 names. On the positive side:
1. Fitzgerald +3.4
2. Grobe +2.40
2. Patterson +2.4
4. Wittingham +1.8
5. Riley +1.6
5. Paul Johnson +1.6
7. D'Antonio +1.2
7. Gundy +1.2
9. Cutcliffe +.40
9. Spurrier +.40
11. Saban +.20

Interesting list. (Synder at +5.25, but just 4 yrs)

Texas HS players are the reason Nebraska is now a has been program. After stepping out of the Big 8 and finally getting competition outside of Norman, the Huskers downfall began in the inaugural Big 12 title game, as an unranked Texas team clownstomped #3 NU, preventing the Huskers from playing for their 3rd NC in a row. As the years went by, the other former Big 8 members who were awful for decades in the Big 8, were finally recruiting on par with NU, as they were raiding the Lone Star State for recruits. Next thing you know, scrubs like KU were dropping 70 + pts on the pinkshirt defenses at NU. You should know better than call Texas HS recruits overrated. Your daddy in Austin is still the only BCS title champ whose starters were all from one state.
