Not going to be surprised if the Mavs advance farther in the playoffs.....even after getting Williams.

True but people are acting like AD isn't a great player. And he's a way player at that.

As good as Luka is? He isn't that.

It's not so much "anti-AD" as it is...how often do you see a player who is a top 5 player in the league traded at only 25 years old? As great as AD is...he's 32 and there's been trade speculation around him for 3-4 years now. There was zero thought that Luka could be traded.

Plus, I'm not sure anyone really knows how to act or what to think because we haven't seen this before. Now that the shock has started to wear off...folks are starting to adjust some of their takes.

Here's the thing....Luka's calf injury won't completely heal till the offseason when he can get it rested. They weren't returning to the Finals this season most likely.

They increased their chances getting a 2 way player like AD. Nico clearly thinks defense wins. And I know they had a top 12 defense but they might improve to a top 5-8 defense now.
I hear you Bro, none of that matters. You can't give up a guy that will win multiple MVP's and Rings when he is 25 freaking years old. No way, no how. Nico can say "Defense wins Championships" all he wants. I don't remember the Mavs trading a 25 year old Dirk for Mookie Blaylock lol

You never get equal trade value when star player gets dealt though.

And AD is hardly some scrub.

True, but again, when was the last time a 25 year old superstar who is just entering his prime years, was traded? No one is saying AD is a scrub. Folks are just trying to figure out what they're supposed to think because it's pretty unprecedented.

Hell, can't speak for anyone else...but I'm still trying to figure out what to think. lol

Imo, it shows that Mavs ownership really, really didn't want to pay Luka that $345 million supermax.

Hell, they prolly making it to the WCF. Maybe the Finals.

Gonna be interesting. I think that it's going to be up to how much the OKC kids have grown up. If they still need some seasoning, then I could see the Mavs coming out of the West.

Yep Dirk was defensive liability for years. They put defense around him. Blame himself for not putting more defense around him if you have some excuse. The only way they “win” the trade is if they win a championship with this roster but even then you gave up a generational player. Those rarely come around.

That's 100% it. They are just like Cowboys ownership, raking in the money and pretending to be broke dick

Yeah, if I'm Mavs ownership, I would have kept him and given him his supermax...you can always trade him in a couple of years if you don't like what you see.

Lakers starting lineup...

PG - Luka
SG - Reaves
SF - Lebron
PF - Rui
C- Williams

Seems solid enough.

Outside shooting should be fine. They do have Reaves, Rui and DFS. That should be enough. Luka and Lebron are heat check guys that can hit from anywhere.

The defense and the bench are really the big question marks. 2 solid defenders, 3 below average in that lineup. Vandy and DFS off the bench are very solid defenders but limited offensively. Bench scoring could be tough.

DFS could be inserted into the starting lineup next season and they could deal Hachimura for a few bench pieces in the summer.

Yeah, unless another opportunity emerges, they are likely done until the summer. Maybe get someone in the buyout market, but that's about it.
