There is no question he could have gotten more from the lakers if he wanted to. A simple memo to the league making it known Luka is available changes what they got from the lakers

Not many centers coming that in the League.

The problem for Nico is pretty obvious. A lot of folks are saying the Mavs are "closer to winning a Championship"....except Luka took them to the Finals last season. So if they take a second round exit this season, or if the Lakers go farther than the Mavs this postseason, he's going to look like an even bigger fool than he does right now, if that's even possible

Personally, I'm kind of low key defending Nico because I think ownership put him in an impossible position.

They told him to move Luka quickly and quietly. That meant dealing for AD and dealing only with the Lakers.

That kind of hamstrung him in negotiations because he had no real leverage.

We don't know what all was said...maybe he did as you suggest and threatened to open it up to the league and Rob called his bluff?

What I do put entirely on him isn't necessarily that he didn't get both 1sts, but that he didn't at least get Knecht and/or a 2nd or something more. Hell, Rui...Vincent...someone. lol

Here's the thing....Luka's calf injury won't completely heal till the offseason when he can get it rested. They weren't returning to the Finals this season most likely.

They increased their chances getting a 2 way player like AD. Nico clearly thinks defense wins. And I know they had a top 12 defense but they might improve to a top 5-8 defense now.

True but people are acting like AD isn't a great player. And he's a way player at that.

As good as Luka is? He isn't that.
