I think Kobe's standing is impacted by recency bias. If he retires 3 years ago where does he rank? He has stuck around longer than his body could hold up and the way the last few years have gone have damaged his career achievements in the eyes of a lot of people.

A legit question: do you consider Kobe a better player than Magic? And having watched both in their primes I gotta rank Magic higher than Kobe.

I'm not old enough to have seen Magic play, but I will say that Kobe is my generation's version of MJ. I'm not sure where he would rank among the greatest of all-time but I do know he has been the greatest of his era alongside Timmy Duncan.
