The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has agreed to terms with RHP Hunter Strickland on a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Strickland, 36, spent the 2024 season with Los Angeles-AL, going 3-2 with one save, 12 holds, and a 3.31 ERA (27 ER/73.1 IP) over a club-leading 72 appearances, which ranked T7th in the A.L.

A 10-year MLB veteran, the Thomaston, Ga. native has accumulated a 25-23 record, 29 SV, a 3.40 ERA (169 ER/448.0 IP) and 408 SO over 480 career games (all relief) with SF (2014-18), SEA (2019), WAS (2019), NYM (2020), TB (2021), LAA (2021, 2024), MIL (2021), and CIN (2022).

I wonder if the Rangers signed Strickland to have another minor league guy available because they want to trade a relief pitcher. I only wonder that because this seems like a very late signing without an injury to a relief pitcher to necessitate such a late signing.

Or, maybe they wanted him all along and it took him this long to give up on a big league deal.

Cody Bradford is being scratched with elbow soreness, Chris Young said. His MRI came back clean but they’re gonna shut him down for 4-5 days to see if it alleviates itself.
