Jamey Newberg always uses 72 as his number of prospects when he makes out his personal top Rangers prospects lists. He is releasing this year's list over a 4 week period. Today he released 19 through 36. Here is what he has come up with.

The name that Newberg mentioned that I am not familiar with is Marcos Torres. Here is what he had to say about him:

30. Marcos Torres, OF/1B, Dominican Summer League (18)
International/2022 (U/R)

Outfielders Anthony Gutierrez ($1.97 million) and Jose de Jesus ($1.2 million) headlined the Rangers’ 2021-2022 international class, but to date Torres ($247,500) has emerged along with Gutierrez as the prize of the class. He flashed a fluid swing and an advanced feel for the game in his pro debut, hitting .282/.395/.464 in the Dominican Summer League while playing all season at age 17. Among his 51 hits were nine doubles, three triples and six home runs, and he stole 13 bases in 53 games. The Rangers believe Torres, who is physically mature for his age and has already demonstrated a knack for taking cage adjustments into games, could hold up to the challenge of the Arizona Complex League this summer. The Venezuelan played all three outfield spots plus some first base in 2022 but is likely to settle in on an outfield corner in the long term.

Newberg has Vanasco 11 spots lower than MLB. He has Acosta 15 spots lower than MLB. He has Figuereo 9 spots below MLB.

They should have done this when they first implemented a WC. This was the best thing to come out of this last labor agreement.

From Jeff Wilson:

Bochy is planning on having two catchers on the Opening Day roster, and so is general manager Chris Young.

The thinking entering spring training is that Mitch Garver is going to be healthy enough to catch by the March 30 lid-lifter.

Garver said last month during Fan Fest that he is throwing up to 200 feet. Young said on Monday that Garver is on track to be a full-go for the opener against the Phillies.

The only way a third catcher makes the roster is Garver has a setback or if he’s not quite ready to catch regularly. If not, Sam Huff or Sandy Leon would make the team.

That seems like a lot to put on Garver’s surgically repaired forearm/elbow. He will get at-bats at designated hitter, which Young said will help the Rangers take it easy on him early on if needed. Garver won’t be the exclusive DH, as the Rangers will use the spot depending on matchups and which platoon player is not in left field on a given day.

But it all hinges on Garver’s health this spring. The Rangers’ pre-camp thinking is he will be fine.

This time a year ago I really wanted the Rangers to take this kid. Then he got hurt and slid down the draft boards. I sure would have loved to have had us pick him last July.

Contrasting perspectives on Ranger off-season
Interesting that they see not getting a LF is biggest deficiency whereas I am concerned that not addressing the closer is a gamble that could blow up in face

The one guy must not have had much problem with the LF situation since he gave them an "A." Lol

Brandon Winokur is a kid I will keep an eye on for our 4th round draft pick in July of this year.

Don't think they ever had any substance. Pirates made it clear they wanted a haul, and Reynolds isn't worth that.
As well as no legit interests from teams at price IMO. Readers were not buying the clickbait.
Lol IMO
