No More "Bullpen Failure"
From Jeff Wilson:
But what if — what if — the Rangers see left field as a position where they can save some money and get good value with one of the outfielders in the farm system?
It makes a whole bunch of sense.
The free-agent outfielders next offseason leave much to be desired. There isn't a player on the list who screams lineup savior or even lineup boost.
The Rangers could get as much production and value from internal candidates, both this year and down the line.
Bubba Thompson, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran — who all exceeded rookie limits in 2022 — are the first three mentioned, and Mark Mathias might be a fit in that group, too.
But three of the Rangers' top five outfield prospects will be at the upper levels to start 2023, one of them is on the 40-man roster, and with a little leap of faith the Rangers could have a cost-effective everyday contributor among them for 2024.
