I’m thinking White, Acuna, Foscue, Bratt & one of Smith/Duran/Thompson/Otto/Ragans
White himself may end up being more valuable than Reynolds. I think the Pirates want to keep him and are just playing head games with other teams

Yeah I think White will end up being pretty good.
He would be the headliner. Never know though.
He could spend his first 2 years in the bigs trying to learn the game. Then they get 4 years out him at which could be 3.50 ERA or 4.00 or 4.50 ERA we just don’t know.
Reynolds has 3 years left and has proven he can be a 4-5 WAR player and hit 20-30% better than league avg. the team needs his high OBP mixed with that pop and avg

Yeah, I wouldn't trade White straight up for him. I think they would require at least 2 of Jung, Leiter and White. There seems to be a successful big leaguer involved in a lot of the proposals I have seen as well. Maybe Leiter, White and Adolis. Or, they may want all three of those prospects I listed.

Sounds like an impasse to me.

I would give up Rocker and another prospect and maybe Dunning. Not giving up White and Leiter to give up would be bad politics with past promises made

I just don't want to trade for anyone that will be a free agent in 2 or 3 years. Not at this point any way.

The FO would be disappointed if we are not in the playoffs by next year. I expect some to be traded and we can’t roster them all. Just have to make the right choices

If we are a hitter short at the deadline then trading for a rental might be needed. I just think it is too early at this point. And certainly, a year from now would be different.

I would take a gamble and claim him, just to see if they could flip him for some decent prospects
From what I understand in the past he is not good for the clubhouse. But on his sexual assault issue was there anything ever proven on that? Just curious as I have not paid much attention to it.

I know you guys know about the Mets now having an issue with Correa but I think to give him a 13 year contract with the time he has missed in the past is ludicrous. There is no way he will hold up anywhere near that long.

That would put him at 41 at contract end. No way he could ever be effective.

He's had major meltdowns in the past and that's what's led to him being traded, one only 3 days after a meltdown...

Josh Smith, 25, UT, TEX (MLB)
253 PA, 2 HR, 4 SB, .197/.307/.249

A utility man acquired from the Yankees as part of the Joey Gallo trade, Smith technically burned his rookie eligibility last year. He demonstrated the plate discipline and contact rate for which he’s known but struggled with the quality of said contact. He blends a fly ball profile with poor barreled and hard contact rates. His 105.4-mph max exit velocity is well below league average. Fly ball hitters who make consistently weak contact typically don’t start.

Earlier in the offseason, the Rangers were reportedly shopping Smith (and the next guy) for upgrades elsewhere. He’s also in the left field mix – a deep collection of interesting but unestablished outfielders. Connecting a few dots, the Rangers recent interest in Bryan Reynolds could have implications for Smith – either because his path to playing time is that much longer or he’s been dealt to the Pirates. The Rangers are known for a fly ball-oriented approach to their hitting instruction. Smith might benefit from an organization that invests in a more balanced contact profile.

Ezequiel Duran, 23, UT, TEX (MLB)
220 PA, 5 HR, 4 SB, .236/.277/.365

As with Smith, the Rangers perhaps prematurely used Duran’s rookie year. A third baseman who has been forced off the position by Josh Jung, Duran has moderate issues with plate discipline and contact rate. He features above-average raw power as evidenced by a 110.2-mph max exit velocity. However, if he qualified, his 85.9-mph average exit velocity would have ranked among the bottom 20 in the league. Consistency held him back in his debut. Duran doesn’t have an obvious role on the Rangers roster and has much to learn in all facets of his game.”

What 4 players make the bench ? Assuming Bubba in LF
Huff, Miller, Mathias, Duran, Smith
Does Miller get cut? Does Duran or Smith start out in AAA?

If Mathias works on OF defense and tears it up in spring training I’d like to see him get the LF starting spot. He showed some promise with the bat.
