He got so many called strikes and bulk of strikeouts were called. So 3 is fine but I think he competes now so he is a guy that would be good in postseason as a starter
So, is the idea that getting called strikes equates to being lucky?

When they are out of the zone. That is fortunate and skillful by the catcher. But it makes him appear to have plenty of swing and miss stuff

So I put him behind Evoldi but ahead of Gray and Heaney. I think Perez has grown a competitive edge and knows how to pitch deep.
A plus

The projections I posted below shows his ERA falling to 4.14 which is slightly worse than what they have projected for Dunning and Ragans. That just seems ridiculous to me.
Agreed. That is ridiculous, especially considering he had a 3.59 expected ERA, a 3.27 FIP, 3.80 expected FIP last year.
I'm not quite as high on Perez as you but I expect him to have an ERA around 3.25-3.50 this year. That's very good #2 stuff.
Think some of these projections might put too much stock in strikeouts and undervalue a pitcher like Perez that generates a ton of groundball outs.

I think Perez and Eovaldi will both pitch like very good number 2 type starters.
I got Perez just a hair above Eovaldi, personally.

I think his competitive edge and his ability to use whatever he needs to use, including pitches just outside the zone, stems from the same thing. Call it experience or wisdom gained, or whatever. I think he will continue to figure out what it takes for him to succeed like he did last year.

Could prove very true. Hope the umps don’t adjust much

That is the problem with a lot of today's analytics and the so called "advanced" stats. They are based on theories about some things being more important than other things. I don't agree with a lot of the theories behind the stats.

Levi Weaver had an article this morning where he discussed the Rangers prospects playing in the Winter Leagues. The best performance has to be that of Grant Anderson. Here is what Levi had to say about Grant.

"There is one interesting success story on the Santurce squad, though: Grant Anderson, the 25-year-old RHP who the Rangers acquired in early 2019 from the Mariners for Connor Sadzeck. Anderson split 2022 between Frisco and Round Rock and is having a brilliant winter, posting an ERA of 0.47 with 24 strikeouts against just three walks in 19 innings. The Rangers are still in need of bullpen help in 2023, so it might be worth adding Anderson to the list of internal candidates alongside Chase Lee."

His WHIP is 0.421.

Blaine Crim was picked up by the team he played for last winter. They wanted him to help in their upcoming playoffs since he led that league in hitting a year ago. He played in their last 3 regular season games and obviously was a little rusty, to say the least. He is 0 for 8 with 5 strike outs.

What package do y’all think the Rangers would have to give up for Bryan Reynolds?

Actually we have a lot of OF talent that we should let playout before the 2024 season. In particular Bubba Thompson. If he can avg .250 with his speed he can be very valuable. Leody remains a question but Duran and Smith deserve more time to develop. Just my view.

It sounds like they want to start with a pitcher who is higher ranked than Leiter. I don't think they want to make up in quantity what we lack to offer in quality. They might take Jung, White and Leiter for Reynolds.

I’m thinking White, Acuna, Foscue, Bratt & one of Smith/Duran/Thompson/Otto/Ragans
