I don’t want our goof prospects sitting on the bench any of them. If they are going to significant playing time they need to be at the Alt site or at AAA when the minor league seasons start
I don't either and that is what I argued back in Jan and Feb when you wanted Apostle, White and Lowe as bench players. I have always said they all should be starting every day somewhere, Huff too.

Not to jump in the ongoing Siggy Saddles thread. Will state that talent does not equate to winning and leadership is an aid to talent. That being said, I really did not care if Davis was on the team much one way or another. Die want Willie to get ABs.
Davis has been a pretty streaky hitter beside a Ranger killer. To keep him long term something needs to improve in his consistency
I didn't mind if he made the team. I just think if we are going to keep White, Taveras, Lowe and Guzman in the big leagues, then the DH spot will need to be occupied by one of them or Calhoun. If everyone was healthy then some should go to AAA/alternate site, but not to make room for Davis to play. I have been in favor of Lowe and Taveras getting AAA time.

Well Lowe and Guzman are still unofficial but in the long run I do like a DH guy heads and shoulders above most hitters otherwise use it a platoon spot

I do too usually. We have so many guys to look at now that I don't mind having 3 guys for 3 spots with DH being one of the spots and all three getting some time at DH. It is not a good strategy for where we will hopefully be at in 2023, but I like the strategy now.

Personally I would like to see Calhoun at DH, Guzman at 1B, and White at CF with Lowe and Taveras sent down. That is, until we find out more about White and Guzman. Of course, I know we need someone to temporarily take over the DH until Calhoun comes back.

I wonder if the Rangers are going to surprise us with an unexpected trade.

If this was Garcia. I doubt rhybwant to expose him again for a temporary look
It was Garcia and I can understand that but the guy kind of intrigues me and since we are rebuilding I would like to see what he has for us at the MLB level only because we have some out on IR. He showed plenty of power in 2018 and 2019 at AAA to go with as Siggy said plenty of K's. Roll the dice.

What's to lose. With all the injuries, not much at risk and possibly much to gain and after all this is supposed to be a genuine rebuild.

I get this but I hate to add him and lose a guy just to send him down and be exposed to waivers again. I know he has had an impressive spring. Honestly if they kept him and dropped Davis in this rebuild year, I would have no complaint. Just don’t think that is going to happen. Have to open up that roster spot

That is one reason why we can't be married to the idea of keeping Davis.

We don't necessarily disagree about young players needing some guidance. I think we mainly disagree about how much and when.

I do disagree about the young players needing to win as many games as possible this year. To me it makes no difference if they win 74 or 79 games. When it gets to the point in winning 90 or 95, then it makes a huge difference.
I'm not equating "success" with "winning" although the fans are going to to some extent. I'm talking about reaching goals set by the team for that player before the season starts...

How many young pitchers do we have that need to get up to the 100-125 inning threshold with a reasonable ERA??? (If most or all of them make it then it would be considered a successful year for them)...

How many young pitchers need to learn a 3rd/4th pitch to be successful???

How many young position players need to prove they can adapt to Major league pitching and progress towards being a useful/dependable player??? (Lets just say hitting .250 with 10 HR and 40 RBIs minimum, just using this as an example some players you need/expect more) :noidea:

This is what I'm talking about about when I say "successful" meeting established goals and trying to improve skills. If they win 60, 70 or 80 games well is that really important, no but the fans might think it is. It's all about creating the right atmosphere to grow/succeed/progress, if the atmosphere isn't there they won't you'll be in perpetual "rebuilding mode"...

I like this, especially the 100-125 innings, there's going to be a lot of teams building pitchers back up about 3 innings at a time, there's going to be a lot of starters going 3-4 innings, with the next reliever being a starter going 3-4 innings as well

I think those who are used to a traditional 5 man staff are going to find this maddening, bc i know some people hate the opener idea, but TB has built a number of solid ML starters using this approach
