Teams don't put prospects like that on the bench until they have proven themselves not worthy of starting. They play them everyday somewhere.
Myself, I would arrange it how I said yesterday and Lowe would DH mostly and play some 1B when Guzman has a day off or is in the OF. My first inclination, actually, would be to jettison Odor and put Lowe at 3B this sprin

now jettisoning Odor is good for me. Play Lowe at 3rd carry Culbertson or Holt on the bench instead of White

These two potential trades were mentioned on The Athletic today.

Done deal?
RANGERS GETROCKIES GET
SS Trevor StorySS Anderson Tejeda
$7.5 millionRHP A.J. Alexy
RHP Tyler Phillips
1B Blaine Crim
In an alternate universe?
RANGERS GETROCKIES GET
SS Trevor StorySS Isiah Kiner-Falefa
$4 million
So Story for 1 year and we give up either IKF or Tejeda/Alexy/Philliips/Crim. I’d say NO to either

Not a fan of trades that send pitching away and bring none back.

It would be a gamble that having him play here, in his hometown, for a year, would make him more signable to a longterm deal. They would have to be committed to paying market value for him.

Who’s his agent? I don’t think we would be ready to sign him or any other big name FA next off-season

His agent's name is "Not Scott Boras."

If they are never going to spend big in free agency then the rebuild is a big waste of time. Let's hope that is not the case.

Keith Law has just released his draft prospect rankings

1. Jack Leiter RHP Vanderbilt
2. Jordan Lawlar SS Jesuit Prep HS, Dallas, TX
3. Kumar Rocker RHP Vanderbilt
4. Jaden Hill RHP LSU
5. Adrian Del Castillo C Miami
6. Marcelo Mayer SS Eastlake HS CA
7. Gunnar Hoglund RHP Mississippi
8. Brady House 3B Winder-Barrow HS Winder GA
9. Ryan Cusick RHP Wake Forest
10. Kahill Watson SS Wake Forest HS North Carolina

I noticed that Florida OF Jud Fabian wasn't even in Law's top 30. At one point, a few months ago, some had the Rangers taking him with the second pick. I looked him up and saw where he started this season 3 for 18, so I guess that is what has Law down on him. Since his bad start he has hit 4 HR in 5 games and has his average up to .273.

The Longhorns pitcher, Ty Madden, that I shared some tweets about the other day, comes in at number 12 on Law's list.

The only thing about waiting that extra year is that they would be missing out on what many believe to be the best free agency class ever, in this coming offseason. They might have to spend a year early if they want to do it right.

Every couple of years we hear them refer to the FA class as the best ever. We need to see what holes we need to fill before we sign anyone. It’s like this suggested trade for Story. We lose prospects for 1 year of his services and if we do somehow re-sign him to a deal we end up blocking people

I have been reading about this upcoming class being the best ever for at least 2 years now.

Even if it is we still need to find out which holes on the team need to be filled by finding out what in-house players fill what spots on the roster

Or, you sign a great player when he is available and fill in holes in the future via trades or with good free agents. Let's say we have a chance in a few months to sign Story. If we are successful and also have good shortstops in the system they become tradebait to fill in other holes. Like we did when we traded Justin Smoak for Cliff Lee.
