True, but you have to convince the ones looking for a ring that they can get one here, if they believe you good, if not (like in the past) they will look elsewhere :noidea:

The team still has a lot of decisions to make and weeding out to do with current players all through the system to do for next year. So don't be surprised if they don't sign anybody you consider to be high quality this year even though they are saying they will. One thing is for certain they will sign 3-4 players, they always do it seems... SP seems to be the biggest need with alot of the younguns being on innings restrictions. You only have so many roster positions to shuffle bodies thru to eat up those 1458 or more innings...

And absolutely signing a SS this year isn't that pressing when next years crop are no slouches, maybe not as young and attractive though. And by then you may not want to...
It will take a good sales presentation, but FA have signed with bad teams enough for it to seem reasonable.

Getting enough innings out of the young guys we have shouldn't be that big of a deal if management decides to go in that direction.

I seen on another site they usual that "they thought he could also be moved to 2B or CF" (which is par for the course) and the reason why SSs are more prized in the draft than just those who only project at one spot, they're more versatile...

Give them some time to work with him on his defense before making a judgement as to where he should go in the field, he may improve dramatically or he may not :noidea:
Just about every SS profiled and projected to go high in next yesr's draft has a blurb in that profile about where else he could be moved to. Those who write that stuff almost always seem to have to include that disclaimer.

Extremely likely to be replaced players within 2 years
1. Trevino/Heim
2 Solak
3. Peters
4. Calhoun

Likely to be replaced or to utility
Tavares
IKF

That leaves guys who may stick as Lowe, Garcia and Jung

So one or 2 guys are not enough whether BT trade, free agency or promotion

Thus SS is not a make it or break it move. Still hope we get one as is a critical position
It isn't about being enough for 2022. Of course it won't be enough. It is about getting some high quality pieces so they are in place when the bulk of the good prospects come up. You get a piece or two this offseason and another piece or two next offseason. You do that even though you will not be a .500 team in 2022. Keep the big picture in mind.

I think I sense some excuses being prepared for the front office just in case. Lol

Banny need to come up with a catchphrase for this offseason for us.

#NoExcusesNoNotAny

#NoExcusesGivenNoneAccepted

well looking at seasonal stats:

Hearn threw 104 innings in 2021, Allard threw 124 and Dunning threw 117 so an uptick in innings in 2022 wouldn't hurt them, using Alexy and Otto in the opener technique would limit them in innings increasing them from 23 innings each in 2021 to maybe 70-80 innings in 2022 and in compass maybe 24-26 starts total. throw in a quality FA starter to serve as our #1 and include possible Latz, Winn, Anderson, Howard, King(when he comes back) and maybe a start or 2 for Leiter at the end of the season and i think we would be fine. and we could always add a non-roster FA or 2 and hold them in the minors

Otto pitched about 120 innings between minors and majors this year
Alexy about 90
I think they could approach 130-140 if they’re performing well.

This is what I think can be reasonably expected from our young atarting pitchers, as far as number of innings in 2022.

Dunning 145
Allard 140
Hearn 125
Otto 140
Alexy 115
Latz 120
Burke 110
Winn 110
Henriquez 120
Rodriguez 105

I realize this is a couple of months old but it gives you some idea of who "could" be available in 22/23...

Buxton, Diaz, and Chapman interest me.

funny I have been thinking the same thing.
We will sign at least 2 vets whether they are elite I don’t know. We will get better as our stacked MLB soon to be ready guys come up.
Maybe these young core guys develop and then we add the elite guy
They've made a couple decent pickups at the Trade Deadline before so you never know, Hamels and Hamilton come to mind...

Oh and before I forget there is another Acuna brother, Bryan that is the youngest... :D

Wasn't Hamilton an offseason move?

Maybe I'm thinking of Lee or somebody else and got the times mixed :L

Didn't we get Hearn for Kela  looks like that might work out alright...

they could but i think that's too much MLB innings so early in their careers which i advocate the opener technique for them next season

Winn is on an innings limit and may only get a cup of coffee. I sure hope we are not having to rely on Allard for 140. Burke we are not sure will be on club despite recent surprises.

I guess we just disagree. I think we pick up one SP and more of a rental
