Right now, the Rangers need to focus on the FA market only, in my opinion. They need to get 2 big targets, and 2 smaller targets. Once all that is settled, and they're done shopping, then they can put trade feelers out. But I'm OK with no trades this offseason.
Yeah, I would like to see what we have with our top hitters in the system in 2022. I would also like to see how those pitchers I mentioned do this coming season. Then we will know more about what we have left to acquire via trade and free agency, a year from now.

Bryan Reynolds wasn't always valued as well as he is now. So, who knows, Carter, Smith, or Duran may be the future CF we need and turn out to be the new Reynolds. Or, we may get him in the draft next summer.

i thought that was the plan: see what we have and bring in players to fill the spots we don't have. but as soon as someone mentions $100M we start talking about gutting our minor league system so "we can immediately compete". sign 1 starter, sign a SS and maybe 1 OF'er and go with our kids trading some of those we know aren't going to be part of the future like IKF, Calhoun, Trevino etc and build not just for next season or the next but for multiple years

Now if we were able to trade some vets for other vets and include MILB pieces for other MILB pieces that could be interesting. Seeing where Jays and Marlins could be trade partners

now if we could trade away those we know won't be part of the team in the future and get prospects i would be interested but when you trade for other vets you usually end up with just more crap that other teams are also looking to unload

Yes I get this but I would like for us to get a legit CF prospect and maybe we DFA vet in return even if we eat money.

There is talk about trading prospects. This is about the only acceptable scenario. We are deep at 2B and maybe 1B

The Atlanta Braves literally just won the World Series on the backs of vets that other teams were looking to unload.

until we see which are the ones to keep and the ones to unload we should possibly wait on this. some of the 2B and 1B prospects won't be close for a couple years and i don't want to gamble that we keep the right ones and trade the others.

they are the exception to the rule. all the others trade away vets for other vets and got the short end of the deals

Like I said earlier, I don't think the Rangers should be doing any trading at all this offseason. But I also think they should be exploring every option to improve the team, even trading for a vet.

Here are our top ones

Texas Rangers
Ezequiel Duran, IF (No. 7)
Ricky Vanasco, RHP (No. 12)
Ronny Henriquez, RHP (No. 15)
Steele Walker, OF (No. 20)
Bubba Thompson, OF (No. 27)
I would strongly consider putting Latz, Ragans, Seise and maybe even Dorrow on the list.

I wouldn't put Walker there and I think Bubba would be safe to leave off.

That makes 8 or 9 I would add. There are quite a few guys who are on the 40 man now that seem less valuable than those 8 or 9 guys.

i'll stick with signing 2 maybe 3 Quality FA's and sticking with our prospects for at least 1 more season before i look at trading

I agree Scotty. We are in position where we do not need to rush. Our future may already be in the system.

if we trade "vets for vets," which is what you were discussing, then prospects wouldn't have anything to do with it

i will assume that management doesn't think that or they would be dumping them now. i see them DFA'ing or trading maybe another 9-10 including Colina, Santana, Pozo, Apostel, Eli White & maybe Howard as DFAs and IKF, Calhoun, Trevino & Patton as trade bits. none of them figure into the future plans of the team although they might hang onto 2 or 3 of them thru the 1st half of the 2022 season

nope i am talking of signing 2 or 3 Quality FA's. trading away some of the "vets" on the team for prospects and going with those already on the 40 who might fit into the future and our prospects.

if MLB goes with a 26-man active roster then we should go into 2022 season with those 3 quality FA's and 23 players already on the roster or in the minors

Here are the 35 guys I would have on my 40 man to prepare for Rule 5 , in order of importance. I am keeping 5 slots open for FA signings. There are still some guys who could be involved in a trade and that would open up some space if we wanted to sign a Rule 5 guy ourselves, or for additional FA signings.

Duran
Huff
Garcia
Alexy
Dunning
Hearn
Lowe
Otto
Barlow
Snyder
Hernandez
Ragans
Latz
